Youth of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology was honored with 02 creative works

From November 29 to 30, 2024, in Hanoi, the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union organized the "Creative Youth" Festival in the North in 2024. The Youth Union of Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (the Academy) was honored to have 02 projects out of 23 creative works, solutions and products in the country honored.

Two projects of VAST youth were honored including: The project "Building a model for the conservation of tree frogs in Vietnam, piloted in Ha Giang province" by Dr. Ninh Thi Hoa - Branch of the Institute of Genome Research and the project "Research on synthetic green technology of metal-mechanical framework materials (MOFS) applied in the field of national defense and environmental treatment" of MSc. Nguyen Ba Manh - Branch of Institute of Chemistry.

Dr. Ninh Thi Hoa was honored at the "Creative Youth" Festival in the North in 2024

The research team of Dr. Ninh Thi Hoa and scientists from the Institute of Genome Research conducted a field survey and population monitoring in the Ha Giang area, focusing on analyzing the ecological, morphological and genetic characteristics of tree frogs here. The main objective of the study is not only to assess the conservation status of Tree Frog species, but also to build and test effective conservation models that are suitable for the actual conditions of the area.

Over the course of their research, scientists have discovered three new species of tree frogs for science, including Zhangixalus franki, Z. jodiae and Theloderma khoii. These findings make an important contribution to enriching the knowledge treasure of Ha Giang's diverse ecosystem. However, besides the positive results, scientists have also noted many threats to tree frog species, especially habitat loss due to deforestation, agricultural development and people's livelihood activities. These impacts not only reduce the living area of species but also directly affect their ability to reproduce and develop.

The conservation model developed by the research team includes studying the current status and monitoring the population size of wild species to prioritize zoning along with measures to protect the natural habitat of Tree Frog species, combined with propaganda and community education activities. Together with the Quan Ba Forest Protection Department and the Genome Research Institute Branch, the research team has implemented training programs to raise people's awareness of the importance of wildlife conservation. Thereby, helping people better understand the value of these species and being encouraged to participate in conservation, from species monitoring to minimizing the impact of livelihood activities on the environment. This model contributes to the protection of tree frogs and the preservation of the ecosystem in Ha Giang.

Propaganda activities to raise awareness about biodiversity conservation in schools in Ha Giang province

The results from the study have shown that this conservation model is not only effective in protecting tree frog species but also raises public awareness of the importance of biodiversity conservation. The project is not only of scientific value but also has applicability, making a positive contribution to the protection of nature in Vietnam, especially in the conservation of tree frogs in Ha Giang, and other rare animals in the region.

The project "Research on synthetic green technology of metal-mechanical framework materials (MOFS) applied in the field of national defense and environmental treatment" by MSc. Nguyen Ba Manh - Branch of Institute of Chemistry

The main research direction of MSc Nguyen Ba Manh at the project "Research on synthetic green technology of metal-mechanical frame materials (MOFS) applied in the field of defense and environmental treatment" is the research on synthetic technology of metal-organic frame materials (MOF) applied in the field of defense and security, environmental treatment and energy transformation. Not stopping at international publications, MSc. Nguyen Ba Manh also researches to complete and optimize MOF synthesis technology on a pilot scale to produce MOF for practical application. 

As a result, there is one synthetic product on a pilot scale and has been applied as a highly effective catalyst in the rapid treatment of military poisons at the Chemical Corps, Ministry of National Defense. This MOF product can replace materials that are being imported in developed countries around the world, opening a breakthrough in mastering domestic material synthesis technology. This is a research direction with high practical value, scientific significance, creating conditions for the development and mastery of MOF synthesis technology in the country.

MSc. Nguyen Ba Manh, currently working at the Department of Inorganic Chemistry – Physical Chemistry, Institute of Chemistry. MSc Nguyen Ba Manh is the author of 20 international articles in the SCIE, Q1 (Scimago) category, especially 02 articles with high-quality IF index (Chemical Engineering Journal, IF 13.4, Q1; Journal of Hazardous Materials, IF 12.2, Q1). In addition, MSc. Nguyen Ba Manh has won 02 Second Prizes at the National Chemistry Olympiad in 2016 and 2018; is in the top 20 Golden Globe Awards organized by the Central Youth Union and the Ministry of Science and Technology in 2024; honored to receive many valuable scholarships from the Vingroup Innovation Fund (VinIF) in 2023 and 2024; VALLET scholarship in 2022, 2023; NOVATECH scholarship in 2024.
