Workshop on LED light technology application possibilities in Vietnam

24/09/2012
On July 20th, a workshop on LED light technology and its application possibilities in Vietnam took place at the Centre for Technology Development Assistance and Service in the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology.

The workshop was held by the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST) in coordination with the Ministry of Industry and Trade and Fawookidi Technology Limited Liability Company. Participants discussed international and domestic LED light technology; the national objective programme on economic and effective energy use; and several successful performance projects on both indoor and street lighting systems using LED technology in Vietnam.

The workshop drew the participation of Prof. Dr. Sc. Duong Ngoc Hai, VAST vice-president; Prof. Acad. Nguyen Van Hieu, former VAST president; Nguyen Dinh Hiep, head of the Department of Science and Technology under the Ministry of Industry and Trade; and Le Trong Dinh, president of the Fawookidi Technology Limited Liability Company.

The workshop also attracted leaders from relevant agencies under VAST, departments under the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Construction, the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, and Hanoi City People’s Committee; United Nations Development Programme; as well as representatives from departments, institutes, groups and enterprises involved in consultancy and investment development, and press agencies in Hanoi.

The workshop was a bridge to promote cooperation among representatives from ministries, committees, state agencies, international organizations, scientists, and business managers, promoting the development and application of LED light technology in Vietnam.

Photo 2: Prof. Nguyen Van Hieu made a speech at the workshopLED lighting based on transistorized technology is a revolution after high pressure sodium (HPS) and Compact Fluorescent (CFL). With advantages traditional technology light products such as saving from 30 to 70% of energy, good lighting quality, long life-span, and being environmentally friendly (no mercury), the product is widely applied in many countries in the world, contributing to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and protecting the global environment.

Vietnam is among the countries most heavily affected by global climate change. Therefore, the strategy and action plan on adaptation to climate change of the Prime Minister emphasized the rapid promotion and wide application of green and energy saving technology, including LED light technology. This is one of several important development orientations for lighting, contributing significantly to the successful implementation of the national strategy on developing, exploiting and using energy resources sustainably and effectively.
