Welcoming the Ambassador of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to Vietnam

On the morning of 08/03/2024 in Hanoi, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to Vietnam Juan Carlos Fernandes Juárez visited and worked at Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST). The delegation of VAST has Prof. Acad. Chau Van Minh - President of VAST, together with representatives of VAST's affiliated units: International Cooperation Department, Institute of Biotechnology, Institute of Chemistry, University of Science and Technology of Hanoi, Vietnam National Space Center.

Overview of the meeting 

At the meeting, Prof. Acad. Chau Van Minh and Ambassador Juan Carlos highly appreciated the traditional friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and Venezuela with many similarities in natural and social conditions, especially in the period of national construction and development. On this basis, Vietnam and Venezuela have strengthened mutual support, strengthened the relationship of friendship and solidarity, contributed to building and developing the country for peace and stability, contributing to development in the two regions and around the world. 2024 marks the 35th anniversary of official diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Venezuela, so cooperation in the field of science and technology will contribute to deepening the partnership between the two countries.

Ambassador Juan Carlos Fernandes highly appreciated Vietnam's achievements in science and technology development over the past time and expressed his desire to expand cooperation in potential fields such as health, biology, robotics research, climate change research and, sustainable agricultural science development. Especially in the field of education and training of high-quality science and technology human resources and proposed by the two sides, exchange of researchers, lecturers and students between the two countries.

As the leading scientific and technological research and development agency in Vietnam, under the Government, VAST has the main function of basic investigation, applied research and science and technology development; training high-quality science and technology human resources for Vietnam. Currently, VAST has about 40 focal points of research units across the country and is cooperating with more than 100 international partners who are Academies of Sciences, Universities and major science and technology organizations in the world; including many partners in Latin America. Prof. Acad. Chau Van Minh emphasized that Vietnam and Venezuela have many similarities in geography, biodiversity, and mineral resources. Therefore, the two countries can share experiences in development cooperation.

The two sides discussed areas of cooperation in a number of potential fields such as chemistry; biotechnology, cooperation in sharing satellite data, exchange of students, lecturers, researchers and scholarship programs for students of the two countries. In the future, the Embassy of Venezuela in Vietnam will connect VAST with research institutes, Venezuelan universities as well as a number of science and technology organizations and enterprises to continue discussing and implementing specific and practical cooperation contents to promote cooperation between Vietnam and Venezuela; contributing to the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
