Welcoming ceremony of the scientific research ship "Academician Oparin" and the 9th marine biodiversity and biochemistry survey between Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology and Russian Academy of Sciences, Far Eastern Branch
The survey used the ship "Academician Oparin" – one of the specialized research vessels in biochemistry and biodiversity of the Russian Federation, with the participation of 30 Russian and Vietnamese scientists. For nearly a month, the survey team will collect field samples in coastal and deep-sea waters in the southern waters of Vietnam, with agreed research stations and points.
This survey aims to update and supplement data on biodiversity, environmental quality and marine life resources, and collect marine and environmental samples for biochemistry and microbiology research and potential assessment of marine biological compounds. The research teams will focus on analyzing factors related to marine pollution, the presence and accumulation of microplastics, organic compounds that are difficult to decompose, and developing remote sensing data for environmental monitoring and aquaculture. The results of the survey will be announced at the Scientific Conference scheduled to be held on May 27 at Institute of Oceanography, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology.
The 9th survey follows a series of cooperation activities that began in 2005, contributing to strengthening the long-term, effective and reliable scientific relationship between the two leading academies of sciences of the two countries. Taking place on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the Russian Federation (1950-2025), the 9th joint survey is a clear demonstration of the traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation in science and technology, especially in marine research and natural resource protection between the two countries.
