Chau Van Minh, member of the Party Central Committee, secretary of VAST Party Committee, and president of VAST; representatives of leaders of functional boards and units under VAST; leaders of the Ministries, Departments, branches, together with the collective of laborers and employees of the Vietnam Space Technology Institute.

The overview of the ceremony

The ceremony took place on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of the Vietnam Space Technology Institute. Through the ceremony, generations of officials and employees of the the Vietnam Space Technology Institute have the opportunity to look back at important historical milestones in the process of building and developing the Institute. At the ceremony, Dr. Bui Trong Tuyen, Director of the Vietnam Space Technology Institute, reviewed the 15-year journey of the Institute.

The Vietnam Space Technology Institute was established under the Prime Minister's Decision 1549/QD-TTg signed on November 20, 2006. Over the past 15 years, with the vision of "Becoming the country's leading research institute in space technology, actively contributing to the development of science and technology and international integration", along with the interest, leadership and support of the Party and Government, and leaders of VAST, the Vietnam Space Technology Institute has gradually risen to become one of the research units with significant contributions to applied research, implementation and training of the national space technology.

In recent years, the Institute has focused on performing tasks such as researching, developing and deploying ground station technology, satellite technology, ultra-high frequency spectrometer equipment, specialized satellite image processing techniques, applications of remote sensing, geographic information systems and global positioning.

Dr. Bui Trong Tuyen, Director of the Vietnam Space Technology Institute, presented a report at the ceremony

The Institute has successfully performed 12 State-level tasks, 25 VAST-level tasks, 10 local cooperation tasks, nearly 100 grassroots-level tasks. Hundreds of works have been published in prestigious domestic and foreign magazines.

In particular, the Institute has been entrusted by VAST to assign the main task in the process of implementing Vietnam's first Earth observation satellite project - VNREDSat-1. The VNREDSat-1 project has trained a team of 15 engineers on Earth observation satellite technology for Vietnam.

Since the successful launch of VNREDSat-1 satellite (May 7, 2013) and officially put into use on September 4, 2013, the VNREDSat-1 system has entered its 9th year of operation (compared to 5 years of design). The system has provided nearly 150,000 images in the territories and territorial waters of Vietnam and around the world, contributing to disaster prevention and mitigation, scientific research, socio-economic development and national defense and security. The success of the VNREDSat-1 project contributes to the formation of Vietnam's space industry, putting Vietnam in the group of six countries in the ASEAN region that own Earth observation satellite systems; contributing to the successful implementation of the national strategy on research and application of space technology by 2020 and a prerequisite for the successful implementation of the national strategy on development and application of space science and technology until 2030.

After 15 years of construction and development, the Vietnam Space Technology Institute has been recognized and awarded many noble titles by the Party, Government, ministries, departments, branches and VAST, such as Certificate of Merit from the Prime Minister, Certificate of Merit from President of the VAST, and Certificate of Merit from the Central Agencies Party Committee.
