Vietnam Space Center participates in Strategic Implementation Team (SIT) of the Committee on Earth Observation Satellites (CEOS)
The meeting was attended by space organizations from countries who are members of the CEOS, such as the US (National Aeronautics and Space Administration – NASA, the U.S. Geological Survey - USGS, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration – NOAA); France (the National Centre for Space Studies – CNES); Japan (The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency - JAXA); and Australia (The Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation - CSIRO); and Canada.
During the meeting, the organizations discussed in detail diverse issues, including the evaluation results of Virtual Constellation (VC); identification of the upcoming orientations of the ad hoc Teams (AHT); an increase of use of new data of earth observation satellites; the potential of the change of management and organization of CEOS; support for the VNSC initiative and other activities at CEOS plenary session.
Attending the meeting, VNSC representatives reported the progress and results of implementing the CEOS Chair initiative to the present time, and proposed support requests from related organizations to provide remote sensing data, develop remote sensing image processing algorithms, collect field data to verify results, and strengthen capacity through training courses.

In 2018, the VNSC, as the Chairman of the CEOS in 2019, proposed 2 initiatives on using multi-temporal remote sensing data on the Vietnam Data Cube system in inspecting forest and rice for the Mekong River region. These two initiatives have been supported by space agencies such as NASA & USGS, EC & ESA, JAXA, and received their Landsat, Sentinel, ALOS-2 remote sensing data covering the territory of Vietnam and in the future for countries in the Mekong River basin such as Thailand, Laos and Cambodia.
Results of the implementation of the two initiatives will be presented at the CEOS plenary session held in October 2019 in Hanoi.
On the sidelines of the meeting, VNSC actively exchanged ideas with partners such as USGS, NOAA, EC and CNES to support VNSC"s CEOS Chair initiative, promote activities and prepare for the signing of bilateral cooperation agreements in the future.
