Vietnam Space Center organizes 2022 Water Rocket Manufacturing Contest

On August 21, 2022 (Sunday), the 2022 Water Rocket Manufacturing Contest for students aged 12-16 was successfully held at Hoa Lac Observatory, Vietnam Space Center, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology. The Organizing Committee has selected 9 representative reports of Vietnam to participate in the Water Rocket Contest, which will be held within the framework of the 28th Asia-Pacific Space Agency Forum (APRSAF-28) ) in November this year.

In nearly a month since launching the contest, the organizers received applications from 34 candidates from secondary and high schools in Hanoi. Coming to the contest, the students were instructed to design, build and launch water rockets by themselves. After 2 hours, each is free to decorate and express their own ideas in the product. Each contestant can launch their own rocket twice. The goal is to get as close as possible to the location of the marker post marked by the organizers, located 60m from the launch site. When launching, candidates must calculate the direction of fire, angle of fire and pressure inside the rocket. Besides the determining factor of the rocket's structure, strong winds at the launch site from various directions made the missile's flight path unpredictable. The contestants and fans were very nervous before each launch, bursting into applause after each good result. After the launch, the contestants rested, had lunch and participated in the experience in the Universe Projection House of the Vietnam Space Center. The event ended in the afternoon of the same day.

The organizers would like to express their sincere thanks to contestants, parents and teachers who attended and contributed to the success of the contest. It was hoped that the contest had brought contestants inspiration and motivated them to learn about space science and technology. It was expected that these contestants would be the contributors to the development of science in particular and the development of Vietnam in general in the future.
