Vietnam – Russian Federation cooperation on biological active products and marine biological diversification of Vietnam
The seminar drew the participation of more than 30 scientists from the Russian Federation and nearly 100 Vietnamese scientists. It was held after a survey was conducted on the East Sea on the Akademik Oparin vessel by a delegation of cadres from the Institute of Natural Products Chemistry and the Russian Academy of Sciences. The Akademik was specifically designed for surveys on biology, biochemistry, microorganism and marine microorganisms to research new resources of biological and medical active products. The vessel conducted two surveys in Vietnam’s seas. This is the third time the survey was conducted according to a cooperation programme of Project 19 entitled “International cooperation on investigating the East Sea’s environmental resources between Vietnam and other countries” by the Vietnam Academy of Sciences and Technology. The programme was approved by the Prime Minister according to the Project 47 entitled “A total project on basic investigation and management of marine environment and sources until 2010 and the vision to 2020.” The Institute of Natural Products Chemistry presided over the project “Vietnam – Russian Federation cooperation on biological active products and marine biological diversification of Vietnam” under the Project 19 of the Vietnam Academy of Sciences and Technology.
The seminar reviewed surveys conducted in ecological areas and islands which stand on Vietnam’s marine continental shelf, corals on seashores in northern Vietnam and islands of the Truong Sa Islands.
