Vietnam National Satellite Centre sends cadres to be trained as masters of space technology in Japan based on Vietnam Space Centre project

On September 3, 2015, the Vietnam National Satellite Centre under the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST) held a farewell meeting with 13 cadres who were sent to study on the MSc in space technology in the 4 Japanese universities of Tokyo, Keio, Kokkaido and Tohoku as well as the Kyushu Institute of Technology. The allocation of courses was in accordance with the third course in a project on basic satellite human resources training by the Vietnam Space Centre.

The Vietnam National Satellite Centre grants decisions on sending cadres to go to study in Japan


So far, the Vietnam National Satellite Centre has sent 35 young cadres to Japan to join training courses for the MSc in space technology in the specialist areas of orbit control; the control of posture, structure, heat, command and data collection and processing, power supply, propulsion system, software and assembling of missiles. The program is divided into three courses: 2013-2015, 2014-2016, 2015-2017. The purpose of the program is to train the MSc in space technology comprehensively through the design, fabrication and testing of satellites.


Theoretical courses will follow the standard MSc program in space technology in Japanese universities and institutes that have accomplished space technology departments. The practice elements will conform to  specific programs in  design, manufacturing, assembling, and testing one micro 50 kilogram satellite.


Training highly qualified human resources in space technology is a critical part of the project by the Vietnam Space Centre that uses the ODA funding from the Japanese Government. The project can be summarized under the following steps: Step 1: Basic satellite - basic knowledge of space technology and design, manufacturing and testing of micro satellites; reception of technology transfer of micro satellites manufacturing from Japanese universities. Step 2: Advanced satellite – reception of technology transfer in the satellite manufacturing facilities in Japan; design, developing of the process of manufacturing, assembling, integration and testing of LOTUSat-1 in Japan. Step 3: Assembling and testing of satellite LOTUS at-2 in Vietnam.


The Vietnam National Satellite Centre plans to recruit and train at least 70 engineers in 2015, some 150 engineers in 2020 and some 300 engineers in 2030. The project aims to train from basic to advanced human resources, ensuring an ability of self-study, design and manufacturing of made-in-Vietnam satellites, in order to meet manpower needs in space technology in Vietnam in the future.
