Vietnam attended 136th Meeting of Plenipotentiaries of the Dubna Joint Institute for Nuclear Research

On March 22, 2024, in Dubna, Russian Federation, Plenipotentiary Representative of Vietnam to JINR – Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Tuan Anh, Vice President of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST), led Vietnam's delegation to the 136th session of the Committee of Plenipotentiary Representatives of the Dubna Joint Institute of Nuclear Research (JINR). Other members of the delegation included Dr. Nguyen Hoang Duong - Deputy Head of International Cooperation Department, VAST; Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Anh - Chief Representative of Science and Technology Department, Embassy of Vietnam in Russian Federation, and Mr. Nguyen Manh Hien - Officer of Science and Technology Department, Embassy of Vietnam in Russian Federation.

This plenipotentiary session is the first session to implement JINR's 7-year plan for the period 2024-2030 with the goal of continuing to improve nuclear research capacity, expand multidisciplinary research, and international cooperation. As one of the first members of JINR since 1956, Vietnam has received major contributions to basic science from JINR.

Members of the Plenipotentiary Representative Committee heard summaries and agreed with proposals from the JINR working group meeting in Hanoi in January 2024, in which the Vietnamese side proposed adjusting the calculation and contribution annuity, as well as strengthening research and training cooperation through participation in the JINR.

With the attention of the Government and the close guidance of VAST's leaders, in recent years, Vietnam's research staff participating in Dubna has increased sharply in both quantity and quality. Researchers from universities and research institutes of Vietnam have actively participated in specialized research institutes of Dubna, publishing and participating in publishing many scientific works in international journals with a very high citation index. Vietnam has also initially participated in a number of key projects addressing major scientific issues in the world conducted at JINR, such as the NICA project to build a new generation accelerator that will allow research with heavy ion beams colliding intensely. In 2024 alone, it is expected that more than 20 new researchers will join the research and work in Dubna.

Within the framework of the business trip, Vice Chairman Tran Tuan Anh had two working sessions with Prof. Acad. Boris Sharkov, Vice President of JINR, to promote research and training cooperation programs in 2024, discussed proposals to build JINR's joint information center and laboratory in Vietnam; meet, listen to the situation, encourage Vietnamese researchers, PhD students and students in Dubna.
