Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology Works with Lam Dong Provincial People’s Committee

On the afternoon of October 3, 2025, a delegation from Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST), led by Prof. Dr. Tran Hong Thai - Standing Vice President of VAST - held a working session with the leadership of the Lam Dong Provincial People’s Committee. Receiving and working with the delegation were Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Ngoc Phuc and leaders of several relevant departments and sectors.

Overview of the meeting

In recent years, the Lam Dong Provincial People’s Committee and VAST have implemented and signed multiple cooperation programs in the field of science and technology. To date, 16 scientific and technological projects have been carried out in Lam Dong province in various areas such as biotechnology, medicinal materials, information technology, and agricultural science, with a total budget of nearly 22 billion VND. The publication of one scientific and technological volume titled “Introduction to Medicinal Plants of Dak Nong Province” serves as a valuable scientific resource aimed at the conservation and development of valuable medicinal genetic resources in the province’s natural ecosystems.

At present, Lam Dong province is utilizing seven software platforms and applications serving disaster prevention and control, while also implementing numerous measures to strengthen the application of science and technology in state management related to environmental protection. In the field of biotechnology, several large-scale aquaculture enterprises have been applying scientific and technological advances in production, using and supplementing enzyme-based and beneficial microbial biological products in animal feed, and employing plant cell tissue culture techniques. The province has developed several biotechnology-based products in food production and processing to create high-value goods for both domestic consumption and export, including coffee, white pepper, tea, dried fruits, juices, and wines.

In the area of digital transformation, immediately following the administrative merger, Lam Dong province issued a series of plans and directives on digital transformation across the province to meet the organizational restructuring requirements of the political system. Specifically, the province has implemented integrated common systems such as the administrative procedure resolution information system, the document and executive management system, and the online video conferencing system connecting provincial to commune levels, while also conducting numerous digital skills training programs.

Speaking at the meeting, Vice Chairman of the Lam Dong Provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Ngoc Phuc stated that, in recent years, the cooperation program between Lam Dong Provincial People’s Committee and Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology in several fields has contributed to promoting the province’s socio-economic development. In the coming time, Vice Chairman Nguyen Ngoc Phuc expressed his hope that VAST’s leadership will continue to support Lam Dong Province in researching solutions for early warning of landslides and flash floods to minimize loss of life and property; strengthening forest fire prevention and control measures; and developing high-tech agriculture.

In his directive speech, Prof. Dr. Tran Hong Thai, Standing Vice President of VAST, affirmed that VAST is ready to provide consultation and support to Lam Dong Province on issues related to natural disaster forecasting, landslide prevention and control, forest fire management, as well as technology transfer and application in the province’s potential and advantageous sectors.
