Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology works with delegation of Dubna Nuclear Research Institute

In recent years, the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (JINR) and Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST) have implemented many cooperation activities in the fields of physics, information technology, chemistry and biomedicine. In 2019, VAST and JINR signed a cooperation agreement to strengthen scientific research activities. At the end of September 2022, Prof. Acad. Chau Van Minh, President of VAST, had a visit and worked with JINR to discuss and sign a Memorandum of Understanding on the continuation of the VAST-JINR Cooperation Agreement 2019. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Tuan Anh, Vice President of VAST, in his capacity as the Plenipotentiary Representative of Vietnam at JINR, had his first official business trip to JINR, working with the Vietnamese research team at JINR and visiting the JINR's laboratory.

To implement the discussion minutes between VAST and JINR, the JINR delegation including Prof. Acad. Boris Sharkov, Deputy Director of JINR; Dr. Dmitry Kamanin, Head of International Relations Department of JINR; Dr. Marina Tumanova, Commissioner, International Relations Department of JINR; Dr. Valery Shvetsov, Director of the Frank Laboratory of Neutron Physics, JINR; Dr. Stanislav Pakuliak, Director of JINR University Center went to Vietnam and had a working session with the Vietnamese plenipotentiary representative at JINR. Receiving the delegation were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Tuan Anh - Vice President of VAST, Vietnam's Plenipotentiary Representative at JINR; Dr. Le Quynh Lien - Head of International Cooperation Department of VAST; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dinh Van Trung, Director of the Institute of Physics; Dr. Nguyen Xuan Anh, Director of the Institute of Geophysics; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Dinh Phong, Vice Rector of Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Dr. Tran Chi Thanh - Director of the Vietnam Atomic Energy Institute (VINATOM) and leaders of units under VINATOM.

The two sides discussed the issue of promoting cooperation, such as organizing exchange courses for experts and young officials, continuing to support the operation of the MT17 accelerator and the construction of a joint laboratory in nuclear physics; exploiting the applications of nuclear physics in other sciences in Vietnam and at VAST, and many other cooperation contents. In addition, during the delegation's visit to Vietnam, JINR and Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology had a meeting with other research units in Vietnam such as the Vietnam Institute of Atomic Energy, Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City, to exchange plans to coordinate the effective exploitation of high-tech laboratories at JINR, as well as introducing undergraduate and graduate training programs in the fields of biology, materials science, geography, engineering physics, and information technology. In particular, on 27/10/2022, at Hanoi University of Science and Technology (USTH), VAST and JINR co-organized the seminar and exhibition "Nuclear physics and wide application in the fields of science and technology today" to introduce JINR's research activities, contributions of Vietnamese scientists at JINR, especially introducing the applicability of nuclear physics in many fields of science and technology such as health science, materials science, environmental science, new materials technology. Within the framework of the workshop, there was also an exhibition introducing JINR's outstanding activities and achievements and the E-learning training program at JINR through virtual reality technology helped visitors participate in real experiments.
