Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology works with British High Commission in Singapore

On May 25, 2022, the British High Commission in Singapore, including Ms. Elinor Buxton, Southeast Asia Regional Director for Science and Innovation; and Ms. Phan Thi Lien Huong, Science and Innovation Program Manager, the British Embassy, visited and worked with the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST). Receiving the delegation, on VAST's side, were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phan Tien Dung, Head of Technology Application and Deployment Department, and Dr. Nguyen Quang Hung, Deputy Head of the International Cooperation Department.

The meeting aimed to evaluate the innovation support program of the British Government in Vietnam to develop a program for the new period.

At the working session, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phan Tien Dung briefly introduced VAST and innovation activities at the Institute in recent years. He said that science, technology and innovation are an important part of strategic breakthroughs and have been identified as the main drivers for socio-economic growth. Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology is the leading scientific and technological research agency in Vietnam with the most international publications nationwide. The number of inventions and utility solutions increases every year, and many of them have been developed into prestigious scientific and technological products in the market.

Speaking at the meeting, Ms. Elinor Buxton highly appreciated VAST's innovative results. The two sides exchanged views on the results of the Leader in innovation Fellowship (LIF) program sponsored by the Newton Foundation, advantages and disadvantages in commercializing scientific results as well as innovation startups in Vietnam in general and VAST in particular. On that basis, the British Government adjusted and developed a program to support innovation in the new period.
