Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology signed cooperation agreement on training, science and technology, and innovation for 2024 - 2030 with People's Committee of Ben Tre province
Attending the event, on the side of Ben Tre provincial leaders, were Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee Tran Thanh Lam, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Tran Ngoc Tam, and Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Minh Canh. On the side of VAST, were Prof. Dr. Chu Hoang Ha, Vice President of VAST; Dr. Nguyen Tran Dien, Vice Director of Department of Application and Development of Technology; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hoang Thi Kim Dung, Director of the Institute of Chemical Technology; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Ngoc Quyen, Institute of Applied Materials Science; Ph.D. Lam Dao Nguyen, Director of Ho Chi Minh City Space Technology Application Center, Vietnam National Space Center; and representatives of leaders of ministries, departments, branches, universities and international organizations and foreign experts.
As of June 2024, Ben Tre's coconut area is more than 79,000 hectares, the largest in the country. Ben Tre is known as the "Land of Vietnamese Coconut", earning more than 500 million USD each year. In the process of development, provincial leaders always pay attention to and create conditions to promote the potential advantages of coconut trees, one of the key industrial trees of the province; on developing mechanisms and policies to attract investment and strengthen the application of science and technology to coconut production and processing in association with domestic consumption demand and international markets. Thanks to active investment in technological innovation, the quality of coconut processed products of the province is constantly improved. Ben Tre currently has more than 200 products manufactured and processed from coconut for consumption and export such as: dried coconut rice, coconut milk, canned coconut water, coconut candy, coconut jelly, activated carbon, coconut fiber thread and, coconut oil.
Since the first signing in 2007, the scientific and technological cooperation between Ben Tre Provincial People's Committee and VAST has been the premise for bringing the results from the Institute to practice. Many cooperation and implementation tasks in Ben Tre province have brought good results to the locality, including:
- Provincial order project, chaired by the Institute of Tropical Biology: "Research, development and standardization of biological monitoring system for the river network of Ben Tre province for water environment management". The project has developed and standardized aquatic biological indicators for biological monitoring for Ben Tre province. Identify species/groups of species that indicate typical polluted environments, apply water quality zoning, manage water sources of rivers and canals in the province. At the same time, build and digitize a database on biodiversity, the current status of water environment quality and propose solutions to conserve and develop aquatic biodiversity for Ben Tre province.
- Topic: "Research and improvement of combustion technology and pollution treatment model from sintered coal furnace smoke" chaired by the Institute of Chemical Technology. This is the first sintered coal furnace exhaust gas treatment model applied in Ben Tre to solve the current situation of air pollution from exhaust smoke sources of sintering coal furnaces, installed and operated at Huyen Khuong SOE sintered coal production facility, No. 249, Hamlet 5, Luong Phu Commune, Giong Trom District. The results of registration and archiving at the Provincial People's Committee and the Department of Science and Technology of Ben Tre province.
- In particular, the cooperation project between Ben Tre Provincial People's Committee and VAST: "Building an automatic data collection system and supporting decision-making in the management and exploitation of irrigation works in Ben Tre province in the context of climate change" towards the goal of building an irrigation area database for the inland canal system, creating a foundation for operational decision-making, piloting the installation of three automatic salinity monitoring stations, supporting operational decision-making when saltwater intrusion occurs. Currently, the project has completed the database of inland irrigation works in Ben Tre province, the installation of stations waiting for bidding approval for implementation, will allow automatic data collection, and at the same time give suggestions for the operation of irrigation systems throughout the province.
VAST is the leading research institution of the country, VAST has always been proactive and creative in proposing many synchronous and breakthrough solutions to promote innovation, in order to put scientific results into practice, improve the efficiency of scientific and technological activities, contributing to the socio-economic development of the country. With such potential, VAST can support many aspects of science and technology for the People's Committee of Ben Tre province. From the field of Agriculture, Forestry and Fishery with the orientation of green growth and sustainable development, to the field of industry - export, in order to create momentum for the economy, when for the first time the province's region II reached 9.25%, three times higher than the whole country (3.74%). In particular, VAST can support the locality in Ben Tre Province Digital Transformation Project for the period of 2020-2025, with a vision to 2030. This is one of the important breakthroughs, comprehensively changing all aspects of socio-economic life.
The signing ceremony of the Science and Technology Cooperation Agreement between VAST and the People's Committee of Ben Tre Province sets the expectation of comprehensive scientific and technological cooperation between the two sides, making science and technology truly become a driving force for socio-economic development as well as ensuring national defense and security of Ben Tre Province.
