Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology receives Brazilian Ambassador to Vietnam

On Novermber 16, 2023, Prof. Dr. Chu Hoang Ha, Vice President of Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST), had a meeting with Brazilian Ambassador to Vietnam, Mr. Marco Farani. The reception is an opportunity for the two sides to establish cooperation in the fields of scientific research, technology and innovation of mutual interest.

Overview of the meeting

At the meeting, Prof. Dr. Chu Hoang Ha briefly introduced the outstanding scientific and technological research directions and achievements of VAST. Prof. Dr. Chu Hoang Ha shared that VAST is a leading research unit in Vietnam specializing in conducting research from basic to advanced technology. In addition, VAST also has 2 universities that can participate in cooperation, contributing to improving the capacity of Vietnam and Brazil through training highly qualified research and technical staff. Ambassador Marco Farani said that Brazil has made many advances in important areas of technology and is particularly interested in quantum technology, artificial intelligence and semiconductor research. FIrom 27-29/11/2023, Ms. Luciana Santos, Brazilian Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation will be on have an official visit to Vietnam; The Minister is accompanied by a number of related businesses and organizations. The Ambassador also hoped that Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology would organize reception arrangements for this visit.

Prof. Dr. Chu Hoang Ha welcomed the Brazilian Government's interest in cooperation with Vietnam and expressed its readiness to welcome it. He added that currently, the fields of science and technology related to the 4th Industrial Revolution are being developed by Vietnam, especially those related to information technology, artificial intelligence and big data. VAST has invested in internet technology, computer science and high-performance computing (HPC). Furthermore, VAST is interested in the field of biotechnology with enormous application potential to diverse socio-economic sectors such as agriculture, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, biofuel production, processing industry, biodiversity conservation and bioremediation. The intersection of biotechnology and digital technologies such as artificial intelligence will present unique opportunities to address complex challenges and promote sustainable development.

The Ambassador expressed his concurrence and emphasized cooperation with VAST related to many fields and mentioned that Brazil will soon send a delegation of experts in sport science to Asia to exchange research. This is an interesting research direction that supports athletes, typically for Brazilian football and involves many research directions such as pharmaceuticals, natural compounds and biotechnology.

At the meeting, both sides expressed their desire to soon establish scientific and technological cooperation to bring mutual benefits to both countries. At the end of the meeting, Vice President Chu Hoang Ha once again thanked Ambassador Marco Farani, handed over gifts and took photos with the Brazilian Embassy delegation.
