On the morning of August 21, at Tan Son Nhat Military Airport, the Ho Chi Minh City Steering Committee for the search, collection and identification of martyrs’ remains coordinated with units under the Air Defence-Air Force Service to transport 7,104 biological samples from martyrs’ remains to Ha Noi. The samples were sealed and packed in 100 specialised containers, draped with the national flag, with a total weight of approximately 1,300kg, and transported by a CASA-295 military transport aircraft to Gia Lam Military Airport.

With its professional expertise and technical system for DNA analysis, the Institute of Biology and the DNA Testing Centre will carry out specialised procedures on the samples received to serve the identification of martyrs. Each biological sample contains not only scientific data that needs to be analysed accurately, but is also associated with the hopes of relatives and families of martyrs in their search for information about their loved ones who made the ultimate sacrifice.

The receipt and testing of a large number of biological samples on this occasion further affirm the role of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology in applying scientific and technological knowledge to tasks of particular significance to the country. It also demonstrates the responsibility and gratitude of scientists towards the heroic martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland.
