Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology Promotes Science and Technology Cooperation for Green Transition and Sustainable Development
Overview of the meeting
Prof. Dr. Tran Hong Thai – President of VAST affirmed that science should not be confined to laboratory research but must be closely linked with enterprises and the market in order to contribute to addressing the country’s development challenges
The meeting took place in the context of Vietnam accelerating the transformation of its growth model toward one based on science, technology, and innovation. According to President Tran Hong Thai, connecting research institutions, industrial enterprises, and policy advisory organizations will open up practical directions for the application of science and technology in production and economic development. Many research areas of VAST, such as materials science, polymers, nanotechnology, biotechnology, remote sensing, and digital technologies in natural resource and environmental management, are considered to have strong potential to contribute directly to Vietnam’s sustainable development and green transition goals.

At the meeting, the parties also discussed the potential for developing biomass value chains and bio-based materials from Vietnam’s agricultural and forestry resources, and shared ideas on developing raw material zones to serve industrial production, including surveying and developing agricultural crop areas as inputs for the production of bio-based materials for the textile industry and related sectors.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the parties proposed solutions to concretize the cooperation ideas that had been discussed. The meeting was considered an important initial step in promoting cooperation between scientific organizations and enterprises in developing green technologies and economic models, thereby contributing to strengthening Vietnam’s innovation capacity and sustainable development in the coming period.
