Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology participates in the Vietnam Technology and Innovation 2024 event – Techconnect and Innovation Vietnam 2024

On September 30 and October 1, 2024, at the National Convention Center, the Ministry of Science and Technology in collaboration with Hanoi People's Committee organized "Techconnect and Innovation Vietnam 2024" event with the theme "Promoting innovation – Driving force for fast and sustainable socio-economic development". Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST), as the leader of scientific research in the country, has brought outstanding and unique technologies to the event. The exhibition booth of VAST was honored to welcome the delegation led by Mr. Huynh Thanh Dat, Member of the Party Central Committee, Minister of Science and Technology, to visit and attract hundreds of visitors to the exhibition space of Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology.

Techconnect and Innovation Vietnam 2024 is an important event to celebrate the 65th anniversary of the Ministry of Science and Technology (1959-2024) and the 70th anniversary of the Liberation of the Capital (1954-2024). The event attracted 2,500 to 3,000 in-person attendees and 7,000 to 10,000 online attendees, along with 200 booths and various activities. This is an opportunity for domestic and international organizations and individuals to demonstrate and introduce new technologies and advanced technologies that are applied, transferred and mastered. At the same time, it is a forum to exchange and discuss the completion and effective implementation of new solutions and policies in connecting technology supply and demand, thereby promoting the application, innovation, transfer and innovation, and development of the science and technology market.

Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology participates in the Techconnect and Innovation Vietnam 2024 event with many new technologies, demonstrating VAST’s activities in the scientific world and in the socio-economic development of Vietnam. Typical ones can be mentioned: Circular economy model from waste (Institute of Science and Technology for Energy and Environment); Dedicated Portable Micro Raman Spectrometer Analyzer, PM2.5 and PM10 Fine Dust Detector (Institute of Physics); Fishing vessel information, positioning and monitoring system, Real-time monitoring system of temperature, behavior and abnormal warning of pig health (Center for high technology research and development); NANOVAST arsenic and heavy metal filters, NC-F20 arsenic adsorption catalyst material, NC-F20 high-performance arsenic adsorption material (Institute of Chemistry); Shared scientific and technological research data management and sharing platform, GPTViet - Open Source Large Language Model for Vietnamese, Paperless Meeting Room (Institute of Information Technology); Solar Thermal Reflective Coating System (Extra-SHR, Cr(III) Passive Galvanizing Layer on Mechanical Parts, Automobile and Motorcycle Parts Components (Institute of Tropical Engineering); Flame retardant paints, Therapeutic equipment (Institute of Materials Science); Biodegrader oil-contaminated soil and water treatment preparations, PNSB-IBT liquid bio-products, Herbal feed for shrimp, fish, Algae Feed-TOMCANT, orchid tissue culture technology (Institute of Biotechnology); the results from scientific research projects to create health protection products such as bones and joints, stomach, liver, diabetes, blood fats, calcium of the Institute of Chemistry, the Institute of Natural Products Chemistry and Institute of Marine Biochemistry.

Some technologies displayed at the booth

Coming to Techconnect and Innovation Vietnam 2024, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology brings research by Vietnamese scientists and for Vietnamese people. Many technologies make a strong impression on visitors and are interested in learning by many businesses and localities, such as the Circular Economy Model from Waste of the Institute of Science and Technology for Energy and Environment. This is a technological product of the state-level project: "Research, development and application of advanced biogas technology to generate electricity and use waste sludge after anaerobic fermentation to produce organic fertilizer for clean agriculture development in Dak Lak", code:  TN18/C07, implementation time: 2018 - 2020 under National Science and Technology Program for the period of 2016 - 2020: "Science and technology for socio-economic development of the Central Highlands in regional linkage and international integration", code: KHCN-TN/16-20 (Central Highlands Program 2016 - 2020). The project was led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Do Van Manh, Director of the Institute of Science and Technology for Energy and Environment, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology. The model refers to waste management and treatment technologies in the direction of a circular economy and the creation of valuable products from waste. The research results obtained meet the criteria of greening in production, towards the goal of net zero emissions and sustainable development, specifically implementing the commitment to NET ZERO by 2050 made by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh at COP26.

Another technology of VAST that is also very popular is the Fire-Retardant Paint using modified additives of Institute of Materials Science. The successful development of a new system of additives for fire-retardant paints has helped the fire-retardant paint business partner of Institute of Materials Science to be granted an inspection certificate for products by the authorities, through which thousands of domestic steel structure construction projects and factories are eligible for fire prevention acceptance to come into operation. The results of research cooperation between Institute of Materials Science and domestic fire retardant paint manufacturers to meet the new requirements and regulations were highly appreciated by the Fire Prevention and Rescue Association in the meeting with Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology. Modified additives for flame retardant paints continue to bring great revenue to Institute of Materials Science. This also affirms the role of scientists in developing products with high scientific content, bringing valuable products to businesses and society in the new era.

The implementation of the Government's policy is affirmed in Resolution 52: "Prioritizing resources for the implementation of a number of national key research programs on priority technologies, focusing on: information and communication technology, mechatronics, new technologies in the field of energy,  artificial intelligence, biotechnology, biomedical electronics", Institute of Information Technology has brought to Techconnect and Innovation 2024 selected and applied technologies, brought efficiency, received and trusted by customers, businesses and localities, such as the Shared Scientific and Technological Research Data Management and Sharing Platform (OPENSIENCE. VN); GPTViet – Open Source Large Language Model for Vietnamese GPTViet is a foundational Large Language Model (LLM), following open source principles for the AI community in Vietnam. Currently, GPTViet focuses on the Vietnamese language. However, this platform is oriented towards a multi-faceted, multimodal ecosystem integrated with LLM (multimodal – audio, image, video, text). Leverage the world's leading open-source LLM large language models such as Meta Llama 3.x, Mistral AI and application to the Vietnamese context. All training and fine-tuning for Vietnamese is carried out on Vietnam's leading supercomputing infrastructure (AI Cluster), with the most advanced Nvidia GPU A100 80GB superchips in Vietnam from 2022 to now. Or Paperless Meeting Room is a software that conducts meetings on a digital platform, supporting features: multi-content meetings, online meetings, meeting schedule management and meeting documents; integrating speech recognition technologies, end-to-end encryption, full-text search, etc. helping to save time and costs when not using papers, contributing to improving the operational efficiency of State agencies and units.

In addition to the above technologies, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology also exhibited a number of other new technologies, imbued with creativity and innovation in thinking and doing. Visitors can visit the Exhibition space of VAST for two days from 30/09 to 1/10/2024 and talk directly with scientists to gain a deeper understanding of the content, nature and applicability of the technology.

The highlight of Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology’s participation in Techconnect and Innovation 2024 is to introduce and promote Tran Dai Nghia Award in 2025. Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology starts accepting nominations/participation in the Award from October 1, 2024 until the end of December 31, 2024 (calculated according to the postmark on the submitted dossier). With the mission of honoring excellent research works, which are widely implemented and bring value to socio-economic development, ensuring security and defense in localities, Tran Dai Nghia Award continues to look for natural science and technology works, authors of the works are the ones who directly organize the application of those results, to contribute to the socio-economic development and ensure the country's national security and defense.

Coming to the Techconnect & Innovation 2024 event, hundreds of visitors at the exhibition space of Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, on the one hand, looking for partners for science and technology cooperation, on the other hand, introducing and nominating promising projects, in accordance with the criteria of the Tran Dai Nghia Award. Through this event, VAST not only affirms its leading position in basic scientific research, but also highlights its pioneering role, as evidenced by innovative and creative technologies, which are a source of inspiration and spread the message: Science serves people, in accordance with the theme of the event "Promoting innovation - Driving force for fast and sustainable socio-economic development".
