Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology participates in the International Industry 4.0 Summit and Exhibition 2018

The International Industry 4.0 Summit and Exhibition 2018 with the theme “Vision and development strategy in the age of industry 4.0” co-hosted by the Government and the Party Central Committee Commission on Economics, a large-scale event attended by nearly 2,000 domestic and foreign delegates, opened on July 13, 2018.

Attendants from the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST) were Prof. Chau Van Minh, VAST President; Prof. Dr. Nguyen Quang Liem, Permanent Deputy Secretary of the VAST Party Committee, along with nine units with many new, high qualified and modern technologies introduced at the exhibition. The academy was chosen to take the first place in the exhibition space, and also the first visited by the Prime Minister and senior leaders.

During the exhibition, the academy introduced technologies relating in 4 blocs: space technology, space and satellite technology; new materials technology, nanomaterials, new energy technology, H2 energy; Information technology and software; and green chemical technology and intelligent control system.


The Vietnam Space Center introduces 3 satellite models which have been developed including: PicoDragon (made), MicroDragon, NanoDragon. These are remote sensing satellites built to observe the earth. Ongoing satellites are expected to be launched by the end of 2018.

The Institute of Tropical Technology introduced the metal coating spraying technology, including the Nikel-Crom spraying technology applied in chemical parts, the recovery of shafts of hydro turbines; Zinc coating technology (Zn) applied in protection against corrosion, anti-teredo in the sea water environment; and copper spray technology applied in the supportive automobile industry.


The University of Science and Technology of Hanoi (USTH) introduced advanced materials technology to produce H2 (new, clean, high-efficiency fuel) from solar energy. This is the work that received the 2018 Ta Quang Buu Award.

In the information technology sector, the Institute of Information Technology introduced camera image interpretation software which includes the functions of performing algorithms: analysis, interpretation, image recognition, motion analysis for extraction of statistics on human movement through the frame and activity observation. Through equipment and software installed at the exhibition, from 7:30 to 15:40 on July 13, 2018, the report showed that there were 5,643 visitors from outside to inside, 5,898 visitors from the inside out (from area A to area B and from area B to area A, corresponding to the number of visitors from the exhibition entrance in and from the exhibition area out).


Other software presented at the exhibition includes: land evaluation software of Vietnam Museum of Nature and E-learning software from the Graduate University of Science and Technology.

In the series of activities of the Forum, in Symposium 1 - Major Trends of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Quang Liem – Standing Deputy Secretary of the VAST Party Committee, as the speaker of the forum, had a report entitled "Viewpoints, objectives and policy orientations for development of scientific and technological sectors in accordance with the Fourth Industrial Revolution until 2030". The report was quoted by many newspapers.

Regarding the access to the Fourth Industrial Revolution, the Party Central Committee issued Decision 125-QD/TW dated February 12, 2018 on the establishment of the steering committee for building of guidelines and policies project on joining the Fourth Industrial Revolution. In implementing this Decision, the VAST Standing Deputy Secretary of the VAST Party Committee to participate in the central steering committee on the project building; issue decision on the establishment of a VAST working group on making reports of the academy. The working group has developed 3 report,s including: “Report on the implementation of the Prime Minister"s Directive 16 / CT-TTg on strengthening the capacity to approach the Fourth Industrial Revolution”; “Assessing the impact of the Fourth Industrial Revolution on science and technology in Vietnam” and “Vision, objectives and policy direction for the development of priority science and technology suitable for the Fourth Industrial Revolution until 2030".
