Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology officially established a cooperative relationship with Romanian Academy
The VAST-RA cooperation agreement for the period 2024-2028 has been approved by Prof. Acad. Chau Van Minh, President of VAST and Prof. Acad. Ioan-Aurel Pop, Chairman of the RA signed in Hanoi on July 2, 2024 and in Bucharest on July 10, 2024, officially establishing a cooperative relationship between the two National Academies of Science and Technology of Vietnam and Romania. This is the first cooperation agreement between VAST and RA, with the goal of promoting and developing the ability to exchange scientific and technological knowledge; jointly carry out research and training activities between the two sides. To effectively implement the Cooperation Agreement, VAST and RA have signed a selection process and co-sponsored the implementation of a maximum of two bilateral cooperation tasks/year. Immediately after the process was approved, VAST and RA jointly opened a call for project proposals for the period 2026-2027 with the proposal submission period from July 17, 2024 to September 30, 2024.
The Romanian Academy (RA) was founded in 1866, including 76 Institutes and Research Centers with nearly three thousand scientists and experts in the fields of social science and natural science research and technology. Research directions in natural sciences and technology such as mathematics, information technology, physics, chemistry, biology, geology, engineering, agriculture, forestry and medicine are RA's strengths, in which each The research direction is headed and led by an RA Academician ( For detailed information on some RA specialized institutes, please refer here).
RA has a tradition of scientific research and technological development; including a number of RA Academicians who have taken the lead in many fields, achieving outstanding achievements in Romania and around the world; Typically Acad. Traian Vuia, the inventor who made one of the world's earliest flights; Acad. Henri Coandă, expert in aerodynamics and fluid mechanics; Acad. Anghel Saligny, world-renowned pioneer in the field of structural metal bridge construction, and one of the founders of Romanian engineering; Acad. Emil Racoviță, co-founder of the field of biology; Acad. Grigore Antipa, creator of the world's earliest biological models; Acad. Victor Babeș, author of the world's first treatise on bacteriology; Acad. Ștefan Nicolau, founder of the Romanian school of virology; Acad. Costin Nenițescu, founder and promoter of new branches of chemistry in Romania, and author of several world-famous treatises on organic chemistry and general chemistry; Acad. Ana Aslan, geriatrician, founder of the Institute of Gerontology that later bears her name and patent holder of the famous anti-aging drugs Aslavital and Gerovital; Acad. Marius Sabin Peculea, an engineer who made significant contributions to the production of heavy water, essential for Romania's nuclear program; Dorin Dumitru Prunariu, the only Romanian astronaut to travel into outer space; Acad. Gheorghe Păun, who introduced the theory of membrane computing into computer science, was inspired by biochemistry and who continued to develop the European school of DNA computing.
VAST has signed and promoted cooperation over the past 15 years with a number of Academy of Sciences in Eastern European countries such as Poland, Czech Republic, Hungary, Bulgaria and Slovakia. The official cooperation with RA in 2024 is a favorable premise for both Academies to develop bilateral relationships in the coming time, connecting with the European Academy system; contributing to promoting comprehensive scientific cooperation and exchange among science academies around the world.
