Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology Implements the Conclusion of General Secretary and State President To Lam on Basic Scientific Research to Master Certain Strategic Technologies, and Presents Decisions Establishing Expert Teams on Science and Technology Along Priority Directions for the 2026–2030 Period

On 29 June 2026, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST) held a Conference to implement the Conclusion of General Secretary and State President To Lam on basic scientific research to master certain strategic technologies, and to present Decisions establishing Expert Teams on science and technology along priority directions for the 2026–2030 period. Prof. Dr. Tran Hong Thai — Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Head of the Central Committee's Commission for Policy and Strategy, Secretary of the Party Committee, and President of VAST — attended and chaired the Conference.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phan Tien Dung, Head of the Science and Technology Department, announced Decision 606-QĐ/VHLKHCNVN dated 26 June 2026 of Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology on the establishment of Expert Teams on science and technology along VAST's priority directions for the 2026–2030 period, comprising: the Expert Team on Advanced Biotechnology and Biomedicine; the Expert Team on Green Chemical Technology; the Expert Team on Advanced Materials Technology; the Expert Team on Quantum Technology; the Expert Team on Space Technology and UAVs; the Expert Team on Marine Science and Technology; the Expert Team on New Energy and Energy Storage Technology; the Expert Team on Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI); the Expert Team on Natural Disaster Prevention and the Rational Use of Natural Resources; and the Expert Team on National Defense and Security.

Delivering directing remarks and assigning tasks at the Conference, Prof. Dr. Tran Hong Thai congratulated the Expert Teams and called on their members to bring their expertise, experience, and sense of responsibility into full play; to proactively conduct research and propose key science and technology tasks; to strengthen connections, promote cooperation, and effectively harness the potential of the community of scientists both within and beyond VAST. President Tran Hong Thai also disseminated a number of contents of Notice 74-TB/VPTW dated 1 June 2026 of the Office of the Party Central Committee regarding the Conclusion of General Secretary and State President To Lam at the working session of the Standing Board of the Central Steering Committee for the Development of Science, Technology, Innovation, and Digital Transformation on the policy for basic scientific research in service of the country, as well as Official Letter 3057-CV/VPTW dated 15 June 2026 of the Office of the Party Central Committee conveying the Politburo's opinion on the Project "Basic Scientific Research to Master Certain Strategic Technologies".

The implementation of the Conclusion of General Secretary and State President To Lam on basic scientific research to master certain strategic technologies, together with the establishment of the Expert Teams on science and technology along priority directions for the 2026–2030 period, is a concrete and timely step by VAST to realize the Party's major policies and orientations on the development of science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation. It is also an important premise for VAST to fulfill its core role in basic scientific research, contributing to building the nation's science and technology.
