Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology held a press conference to announce two outstanding projects that have been awarded the Trần Đại Nghĩa Prize for 2025
Press conference for the Trần Đại Nghĩa Award on the morning of May 15
The Trần Đại Nghĩa Award is a prestigious scientific and technological honor initiated and organized by Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST). Presented every three years, the award recognizes scientists—both domestic and international—for their outstanding research in various fields of natural sciences and technology, including Mathematics, Mechanics, Information and Computer Science, Physics, Chemistry, Life Sciences, Earth Sciences, Marine Sciences, Environmental Sciences, and Energy. The award seeks to honor exceptional scientific and technological achievements with high practical applicability, contributing significantly to socio-economic development and improving the quality of life for the people.
The award is named after Labor Hero, Major General, Professor, and Academician Trần Đại Nghĩa — a distinguished soldier-scientist who laid the foundation for military science and technology in Vietnam. He was also the first Director of the Vietnam Science Institute, the predecessor of today’s Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology.
At the press conference, Professor Chu Hoàng Hà — Vice President of Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology — formally announced that the awarding ceremony for the Trần Đại Nghĩa Award 2025 will be held at 8:30 a.m. on May 16, 2025, at the Trần Đại Nghĩa Hall, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, No. 18 Hoàng Quốc Việt Street, Hanoi. The event will be attended by representatives of the Party and State leadership, as well as delegates from various ministries, sectors, and localities where the honored projects have been implemented. This marks a profound recognition and affirmation of the Trần Đại Nghĩa Award’s prestige and significance — both within the scientific community and in its positive impact on socio-economic development.
Prof. Dr. Chu Hoàng Hà — Vice President of Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology — and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phan Tiến Dũng — Director of the Department of Application and Development of Technology — responded to questions from journalists during the press conference
For the 2025 Awards, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology will honor two outstanding scientific works, rigorously and objectively selected by the Specialized Scientific Council and the Awards Council in accordance with the announced procedures and criteria. The awarded projects clearly demonstrate innovation, creativity, and practical applicability. Specifically:
Amid the shared joy of the scientific community on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, Prof. Chu Hoàng Hà announced another piece of good news: the Department of Intellectual Property under the Ministry of Science and Technology has officially confirmed that the Trần Đại Nghĩa Award of Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology fully meets the conditions for trademark protection in accordance with the Intellectual Property Law. This recognition not only affirms the legal value and prestige of the Award, but also serves as a driving force for VAST to maintain quality, transparency, and objectivity in its organization and selection processes. The announcement is even more meaningful as 2025 marks the 10-year milestone of the Trần Đại Nghĩa Award, with four award cycles held and eight exemplary scientific works honored — leaving a strong impact not only within the scientific community but also in contributing to socio-economic development and the safeguarding of national defense and security.
