Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology and Vietnam National Chemical Group Sign Strategic Cooperation Agreement for 2025-2030: Strengthening the Link between Research, Education, and Production

On the afternoon of October 10, 2025, in Hanoi, the signing ceremony of the Strategic Cooperation Agreement for the 2025-2030 period between Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST) and Vietnam National Chemical Group (VINACHEM) took place. The event was held in the context of Vietnam’s ongoing implementation of the Politburo’s Resolution 57-NQ/TW dated December 22, 2024, on breakthroughs in science, technology, innovation, and national digital transformation, contributing to fostering collaboration between research institutions and industrial enterprises.

Attending the ceremony on behalf of VAST were Prof. Acad. Chau Van Minh, Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Party Committee, and President of VAST; Prof. Dr. Chu Hoang Ha, Vice President of VAST; and representatives of VAST’s affiliated units. Representing VINACHEM were Mr. Phung Quang Hiep, Member of the Government Party Committee, Secretary of the Party Committee, and Chairman of the Members’ Council of VINACHEM; Mr. Nguyen Huu Tu, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and General Director of VINACHEM; along with members of the leadership board, specialized departments, and several member units.

Speaking at the ceremony, Prof. Acad. Chau Van Minh stated that Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology is the nation’s leading scientific research institution, tasked with conducting basic and applied research, implementing scientific and technological advances, and training high-level human resources to serve the country’s sustainable development. VINACHEM is one of the key enterprises in Vietnam’s chemical industry. In the context of the ongoing implementation of the Politburo’s Resolution 57-NQ/TW on breakthroughs in science, technology, and innovation, promoting collaboration between research institutes and industrial enterprises is of vital importance. The Strategic Cooperation Agreement for the 2025-2030 period between VAST and VINACHEM marks an important step toward accelerating the application of research outcomes into practice, contributing to national industrialization and modernization, and opening a new phase of comprehensive, sustainable, and effective cooperation between the two sides.

Chairman Phung Quang Hiep affirmed that technological breakthroughs are the cornerstone of VINACHEM’s development strategy. He noted that VINACHEM has been enhancing cooperation with universities, research institutes, and major technology enterprises both domestically and internationally to develop new, high value-added products serving high-tech industries such as semiconductors, advanced materials, and clean energy. Competitive products, he emphasized, can only be created through intellect and innovation. VINACHEM consistently links research, education, and production to transform knowledge into strength, thereby contributing to the development of a modern, green, and sustainable Vietnamese chemical industry.

In the presence of distinguished guests, representatives from both sides - Prof. Dr. Chu Hoang Ha, Vice President of Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, and Mr. Nguyen Huu Tu, General Director of the Vietnam National Chemical Group (VINACHEM) - officially signed the Strategic Cooperation Agreement. Under the agreement, the two parties will collaborate in several key areas, including: research, application, and transfer of new and advanced technologies from laboratories to commercial products funded by VINACHEM through specific contracts; cooperation in identifying, decoding, localizing, and mastering international technologies; coordination with partner enterprises within their respective networks to commercialize products; and training and developing high-quality human resources for VINACHEM.

In his remarks, Mr. Nguyen Huu Tu emphasized that with VAST’s team of leading experts and scientists, combined with VINACHEM’s production and business capacity, the two sides can establish new value chains based on knowledge and technology - laying the foundation for the sustainable development of Vietnam’s chemical industry in the green and digital era. He affirmed VINACHEM’s commitment to creating favorable conditions for the effective and substantive implementation of cooperation programs, serving as a launchpad for scientific and technological breakthroughs and innovation across the industry.

During the ceremony, participants also discussed key cooperation areas in three main fields: (1) Semiconductor technology - joint research on the domestic production of ultra-pure chemicals to enhance self-reliance and promote sustainable development of the national semiconductor industry; (2) Pharmaceutical chemistry - research and development of pharmaceutical technologies toward self-sufficiency in raw materials and mastery of drug production technologies; (3) Energy storage and conversion materials - research on next-generation battery cell technologies, production of chemicals for battery manufacturing, improving lead-acid battery recycling efficiency, and recovering and recycling used batteries.

The signing ceremony was not only a milestone event for the two leading institutions but also a symbol of the innovative spirit promoted by Resolution 57-NQ/TW. With VAST’s strong scientific and technological research capacity and VINACHEM’s strengths in production, business, and management, this partnership is expected to generate new, advanced, and high-value technologies and products, contributing to the development of a green, safe, modern, and sustainable chemical industry in Vietnam.
