Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology and the Russian Academy of Sciences agreed to expand scientific and technological cooperation directions
At the meeting, Prof. Acad. Chau Van Minh thanked the former Soviet Academy of Sciences and later the Russian Academy of Sciences for the support and long-term cooperation in the process of building and developing Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology. Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology and the Russian Academy of Sciences and Sciences have signed cooperation agreements starting in 1991, re-signed in 1995, 2006 and most recently in 2012 at the headquarters of the Russian Academy of Sciences on the occasion of the official visit of the Vietnam President to Russia. Implementing the Cooperation Agreement, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology has promoted joint research in basic science fields such as mathematics, physics, chemistry, especially promote cooperation in marine science and technology research through the implementation of joint survey trips in Vietnamese waters using scientific research ships of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Prof. Acad. Gennady Krasnikov said that based on the cooperation and free trade exchange between Vietnam and the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union, including Russia, cooperation in the field of science and technology between the two countries Russia-Vietnam as well as two academic institutions should also be promoted; and to achieve this important goal, it is necessary to strengthen the exchange of experts, scientists and young cadres; at the same time creating new impetus for long-term cooperation projects. These are the same basic issues that were mentioned in the Cooperation Agreement in 2012, but need to be deepened to match the current development. Leaders of the two Academies discussed and agreed that in the new period, the two sides should promote traditional cooperation activities such as scientific exchange through the Academy-level program; implementing joint research projects in basic research fields, especially activities in the marine scientific research cooperation roadmap signed in 2018; expanding new cooperation contents such as tropical engineering, new material technology, linking scientific research cooperation with technology development; and strengthen cooperation through activities within the framework of the Association of World Academy of Sciences of which both sides are members. These discussions will be concretized in the Cooperation Agreement and signed soon, within 2022, as a basis for affiliated research units to implement cooperation activities.
Based on the strategic partnership between Vietnam and Russia, the traditional cooperation in science and technology and education and training between Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology and Russian partners in general and between the two Academies in particular, the cooperation between Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology and the Russian Academy of Sciences has great potential for further development, commensurate with the diplomatic relations between the two countries.
