Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology and Russian Academy of Sciences, Far Eastern Branch reported on outstanding cooperation activities at Vietnam-Russia International Conference within the framework of Eastern Economic Forum 2024

At the invitation of Russian Historical Society (RHS) and Russian Academy of Sciences, Far Eastern Branch (FEBRAS), the delegation of Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST) led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Tuan Anh, Vice President of VAST, attended the "Vietnam-Russia International Conference on Science and Practice" from September 3-6, 2024 in Vladivostok, Russian Federation. The conference is part of the series of activities of Eastern Economic Forum 2024, gathering many famous scholars of Russia and Vietnam, focusing on discussing and evaluating the history of bilateral relations so far and the prospects of bilateral relations in the future and towards the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Russia (January 30, 1950 - 2025).

Speaking at the Opening Session of the Conference, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Tuan Anh, Vice President of VAST, expressed his sincere appreciation and gratitude to the State and people of the Soviet Union for supporting and helping many generations of Vietnamese students to study and research in the Soviet Union, including many officials who have become leading scientists of VAST. Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology highly appreciates the cooperation and support of research institutions and universities of the former Soviet Union and the later Russian Federation for the formation and development of VAST, especially in the fields of basic and applied sciences such as physics, chemistry, biotechnology and, marine science. The enduring cooperation between the two sides is a testament to the effective and successful cooperation between Vietnamese and Russian scientists, contributing to promoting the friendship between the two countries for more than 70 years.

Cooperation in science and technology and training between VAST scientists and Russian scientists, between VAST and RAS; especially in common marine survey research activities; studies to evaluate the biodiversity and medicinal potential of marine organisms; and analyses of marine geological and geophysical data have been concretized in incoming reports from VAST and FEBRAS affiliates.

During their time in Vladivostok, VAST and FEBRAS also organized many joint scientific exchange activities such as the Workshop to evaluate cooperation activities between the two sides within the framework of the "VAST-FEBRAS Center for Coordination and Development of Scientific and Technological Cooperation"; approving the content of amendments, supplements and updating a number of young scientists from both sides to be members of the Coordination Council for the operation of the above Center; visited and worked at Pacific Oceanographic Institute, National Research Center for Marine Biology, Pacific Institute of Organic Biochemistry and Pacific Geological Institute. Cooperation activities between research units affiliated to two academies were highly appreciated by the leaders of the two sides, especially the joint marine survey activities in Vietnamese waters using the scientific research ships "Academician Oparin" and "Academician Lavrentiev" within the framework of VAST-FEBRAS Marine Research Cooperation Roadmap 2018-2025. With four surveys organized effectively and successfully in this Roadmap and two trips expected to be implemented in 2025 with dozens of joint announcements and a series of conferences and seminars, VAST and FEBRAS agreed to continue to develop the Survey Roadmap in the coming period to continue to promote the achievements of cooperation, contributing to promoting scientific and technological cooperation between two academies and between Vietnamese-Russian research and training units in general. 

On this occasion, VAST awarded the Commemorative Medal to Prof. Acad. Yury Kulchin, President of FEBRAS; Prof. Acad. Valentin Sergienko, Former President of FEBRAS, and eight FEBRAS scientists and staff for their contributions and promotion of cooperation between two academies. FEBRAS also awarded a special Certificate of Merit on the occasion of the 300th anniversary of Russian Academy of Sciences to Prof. Acad. Chau Van Minh, President of VAST and a number of VAST individuals and scientists – who have implemented many joint cooperation activities between the two sides in recent years. The close and effective collaboration of VAST and FEBRAS scientists is a testament to the enduring cooperation between two Academies of Sciences of the two countries; contributing to strengthening the 75-year historical friendship between Vietnam and the Russian Federation.
