The seminar also had the presence of Prof. Dr. Chu Hoang Ha, Vice President of VAST, Prof. Genta Kawahara, Permanent Vice President of Osaka University and Leaders of several units under VAST and Osaka University in the fields of information technology, nanotechnology, physical science materials, pharmaceutical chemicals, energy, and environment.

Prof. Acad. Chau Van Minh emphasized Japan's support and cooperation in training human resources during the period when Vietnam began to open up, as well as the current period of extensive international integration. Citing data from Vietnam and Japan, it shows that Japan is the country of most interest by Vietnamese students and vice versa, the number of Vietnamese students in Japan also ranks second in the total. Prof. Acad. Chau Van Minh also reviewed the milestones in training cooperation activities between the two sides, from projects implemented at affiliated units; to the participation in Osaka University's ASEAN Campus project in 2017 in which student exchange and dual degree training are the main activities. The reports of Prof. Dr. Vu Dinh Lam, Director of the Graduate University of Science and Technology; Prof. Dr. Tran Dai Lam, Director of the Institute of Tropical Technology, as well as Prof. Dr. Sumimura, the Global Cooperation Office of Osaka University, specifically illustrated the cooperation activities between VAST and Osaka University, Japan.
Speaking at the Seminar, Prof. Nishio Shojiro appreciated the support of Professors at VAST in training cooperation and scientific research. In the past time, despite being affected by the epidemic, the two sides still had strong exchanges and cooperation, maintained cooperation programs and reached many achievements. Prof. Nishio Shojiro also said that Osaka University is the only institution in Japan that has implemented the Society 5.0 Project with fields such as information technology, quantum, big data, and artificial intelligence. He hoped that the two sides would continue to strengthen cooperation in research and education and training of high-quality human resources to be able to solve global and Southeast Asian problems.
Within the framework of the discussion, Prof. Acad. Chau Van Minh and Prof. Nishio Shojiro signed a cooperation agreement on training and student exchange for the period of 2023-2027; Prof. Dr. Chu Hoang Ha and Prof. Nishio Shojiro signed the Minutes of the Seminar to create a basis for continuing to implement cooperation activities between VAST and Osaka University, Japan, as well as between units under the two sides.
Also at the seminar, on behalf of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, Prof. Acad. Chau Van Minh awarded the Medal of VAST to Prof. Nishio Shojiro in gratitude for the support, support and companionship of Osaka University as well as Prof. Nishio in the process of cooperation in developing science and technology human resources as well as implementing scientific projects at VAST. In the active and urgent working atmosphere of the first days of the new year 2023, the Seminar "VAST-OU: Cooperation in developing high-quality scientific and technological human resources" had lively discussions about continuing to cooperate in the ASEAN CAMPUS program, build joint laboratories, joint research funds and exchange programs for professors and students between the two sides. A number of specialized research institutes under VAST have traditionally cooperated with Osaka University, the seminar is an opportunity to continue to expand the fields of cooperation in biotechnology, materials technology, information technology, renewable energy, biological materials, plastic waste, especially core technologies of the 4.0 revolution, projects of National Data Center, High Performance Computing Center. Based on the report of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Truong Thang, Director of the Institute of Information Technology, a number of orientations and cooperation proposals have been formed and may soon be deployed in the near future.
The seminar also suggested cooperation contents in the new period and agreed to discuss more about specific plans through the focal points of the two sides, contributing to promoting the long-standing friendly cooperation of 50 years between Vietnam and Japan.
Osaka University was established in 1931 and is currently ranked in the Top 3 in Japan and the Top 100 in the world. Osaka University has 11 Schools, 16 Graduate Schools, 23 Research Centers and Institutes, and 2 University Hospitals. The number of officers and employees of the University is about 9000 people, of which 6000 are full-time workers, there are nearly 16,000 undergraduate students and 8000 graduate students. The number of international students is approximately 2000 students per year. |
