Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology and Hanoi City promote the development of quantum technology, laying foundation for national strategic technologies

Within the framework of the Conference on the "Announcement of the Capital Master Plan with a 100-Year Vision and Investment Promotion 2026", held on June 26, 2026, Professor, Doctor Tran Tuan Anh, Vice President of Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST), together with representatives of the Ha Noi People's Committee, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, and FPT Corporation, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation in the development of quantum technology in Hanoi. This is a significant step towards implementing the national policy on the development of strategic technologies, while contributing to the establishment of Ha Noi as Viet Nam's centre for quantum technology research, education and application.

According to the Memorandum of Understanding, the parties will cooperate to build a quantum technology ecosystem in Hanoi through the development of human resources, scientific research, research infrastructure and the promotion of quantum technology applications. The cooperation will focus on developing the Hanoi Quantum Technology Development Project through to 2035, with a vision to 2045; establishing laboratories, research centres and innovation centres; strengthening international cooperation; and forming strong research groups in areas including quantum computing, quantum communications, post-quantum cryptography, quantum sensing, quantum materials, and quantum-enhanced artificial intelligence.

Within the framework of this cooperation, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology will leverage its strengths in fundamental research and technology development to lead or participate in research on core quantum technologies; develop research infrastructure and high-quality human resources; mobilise experts from both Vietnam and abroad; and implement science and technology programmes and projects serving the development of the capital and the country.

The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding further reaffirms Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology's pivotal role in implementing the Party's and the State's policies on the development of science, technology, innovation and strategic technologies.
