Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology and French Institute of Research for Development sign a cooperation agreement for the period of 2023-2028
Speaking at the meeting, Prof. Acad. Chau Van Minh reviewed outstanding cooperation activities over the past 20 years between VAST and IRD in fields such as life sciences, ecology, biochemistry, environment, etc. Research programs IRD, led by researchers of IRD to work in Vietnam or by experts who have moved on short or long-term work, has created favorable conditions for VAST scientists to learn from the experience from IRD scientists right in Vietnam through hands-on experiments, sharing of field knowledge or in Do Son Summer School courses. The successes of joint research, forming of research groups and joint laboratories over the past time have made useful contributions to the development of University of Science and Technology of Hanoi (Vietnam - France University) into a prestigious scientific research training institution in Vietnam today.
Ms. Valérie Verdier emphasized that VAST is one of IRD's important partners in Vietnam and is very impressed by the cooperation between Vietnamese and French scientists, with the results of joint laboratory projects. Returning to Vietnam this time as President - CEO of IRD, Ms. Valérie Verdier noticed the rapid development in research qualifications and facilities in Vietnam in general and the Academy in particular; and said that the successes of previous projects along with the progress of VAST scientists are the basis for the two sides to develop more potential projects. In particular, research coordination will promote coordination in training future generations of young people - a key issue in the development and growth of each country.
Prof. Dr. Chu Hoang Ha, Vice President of VAST, Chairman of the Council of Vietnam - France Universities, shared some contents of future cooperation such as a tripartite cooperation project with the role of a center connecting research and training created by Vietnam - France University. Based on the results of the previous VITEL and DRAGUN marine survey programs in the coastal areas of the Red River and Mekong Deltas and the joint land-ocean-atmosphere laboratory project LOTUS between IRD and from VAST at the Vietnam-France University, the two sides agreed on a joint survey plan in the waters and coastal areas of Vietnam using the scientific research vessel ANTEA of IRD in 2024.
On the basis of the successes achieved and the future development plans, the two sides signed a cooperation agreement on science and technology for the period of 2023-2028, affirming that they will continue to stand side by side in the future, learn new knowledge, new products, towards building a network of cooperation in the region and the world.
Prof. Acad. Chau Van Minh, President of VAST, and Ms. Valérie Verdier, President and CEO of IRD, sign a cooperation agreement
Ambassador Nicolas Warnery and Prof. Bruno David highly appreciated the cooperation results that VAST and IRD have achieved in the past time, and wished the two Institutes to implement the Cooperation Agreement effectively in the coming period. Prof. Bruno David shared that in the near future, the IRD Representative in Vietnam will also be the representative of the French Museum of Natural History, and hopefully this is an opportunity for the French Museum of Natural History to promote cooperation activities in Vietnam.
Joining the atmosphere when the two countries Vietnam and France are carrying out many activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations, with support from the French Embassy in Vietnam, cooperation activities between VAST, IRD and its French partners have a lot of potential for development with new, diverse and rich developments.
