Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology and Da Nang People's Committee sign cooperation agreement on science, technology, innovation and digital transformation

Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST) and the Da Nang People's Committee signed a cooperation agreement on scientific research, technology development, innovation and digital transformation, during a ceremony held in Da Nang City on July 6.

Attending the ceremony, Da Nang City was represented by Nguyen Manh Hung, Deputy Secretary of the Municipal Party Committee and Chairman of the People's Committee; Ho Quang Buu, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee, and leaders of municipal departments and agencies. Representing VAST were Professor Dr Tran Hong Thai, Member of the Party Central Committee, President of VAST and Deputy Head of the Party Central Committee's Commission for Policies and Strategies, together with leaders of its functional departments and affiliated research institutes.

Speaking at the ceremony, Chairman of the Da Nang People's Committee Nguyen Manh Hung highly appreciated VAST's contributions to the city's development over recent years. In its new development phase, Da Nang aims to become a regional innovation hub, international financial centre, and centre for high technology and the digital economy. The city is also finalising its marine economy and marine technology development strategy to support its master plan through 2050, with a vision to 2075. Science, technology and innovation must therefore become new drivers of the city's growth, he said.

He called on VAST to continue accompanying the city in strategic technology research and transfer in areas such as artificial intelligence, semiconductors, biotechnology and green energy, while supporting high-quality human resources development, policy consultation, innovation ecosystem building and the implementation of key projects.

On behalf of VAST, VAST President Tran Hong Thai stressed that, over many years, through research programmes, science and technology projects, technology transfer activities, human resources training and policy advisory services, many of the academy's affiliated units have established close cooperation with Da Nang. According to VAST, between 2016 and 2026 it implemented more than 30 science and technology projects in Da Nang and the former Quang Nam area, with total funding exceeding 22 billion VND. The VAST President expressed his expectation that, following the signing ceremony, both sides would promptly translate the agreement into concrete programmes, projects and scientific tasks with clearly defined applications, generating practical outcomes to support the city's socio-economic development.

The signing of the cooperation agreement marks a new stage in cooperation between Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology and the Da Nang People's Committee. It is expected to further harness scientific, technological and innovation capacity, effectively mobilise the resources of scientists, experts and local businesses, and help build Da Nang into a leading centre for science, technology and innovation in central Vietnam and nationwide, contributing to the country's rapid and sustainable development in the new era.
