Vernoamyosite E compound from Green chiretta

Vernoamyosite E compound was found in green chiretta by scientists of the Central Institute of Scientific Research, contributing to creating a scientific basis for applied research to create products for the prevention and treatment of diabetes based on available medicinal resources in Vietnam. On June 25, 2021, the National Office of Intellectual Property granted a patent to a group of authors for this work.

Diabetes is becoming a dangerous and quite common disease in Vietnam and around the world. Green chiretta have long been used as a remedy for diabetes. Therefore, further studies on this medicinal plant, especially the discovery of the new compound Vernoamyosit E from green chiretta, have both scientific and practical significance.

Green chiretta Vernonia Amygdaline

Assoc. Dr. Pham Viet Cuong and his colleagues at the Central Institute of Scientific Research have carried out studies and evaluated the biological activities of green chiretta extracts. The research team decided to plant green chiretta in 3 areas with different climatic and soil conditions in Thua Thien Hue to determine in which area this plant has the best active ingredients. After planting green chiretta trees in Phong Dien, Phu Vang and Phu Loc, the research team found that all three ecological regions of green chiretta can grow and develop. However, green chiretta trees grown in Phu Vang have the best quality, due to the alluvial soil, good micronutrients and a milder climate than the rest.

After harvesting and extracting the leaves, the research team screened them to find substances with anti-diabetic properties through the evaluation of substances capable of inhibiting α-amylase and α-glucosidase enzymes. Scientists have deeply studied the chemical composition of green chiretta and isolated a new compound, Vernoamyosite E, which belongs to the class of sterol glysosite substances with stigmastan form, showing a rather high inhibitory activity on α-amylase and α- glucosidase enzymes. This is a brand new discovery.

Research on Vernoamyosite E compound and the method of extracting this compound from Vernonia Amygdaline green chiretta by scientists of Central Institute of Scientific Research was published by the National Office of Intellectual Property, Patent No. 1-002850 on 25/06/2021.
