VAST receives delegation from the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation

On the occasion of the delegation of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation attending the 24th session of the Vietnam-Russia Intergovernmental Committee, on the morning of April 5, 2023, Prof. Dr. Chu Hoang Ha, Vice President of Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST), had a reception and working session with the delegation at VAST's headquarter.

The delegation was led by Konstantin Mogilevsky, Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation. Also attending the delegation were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dinh Thi Mai Thanh, Rector of USTH; Dr. Nguyen Thi Trung, Vice Director of the Graduate University of Science and Technology; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Quoc Tien, Vice Director of Institute of Materials Science; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dinh Van Trung, Director of the Institute of Physics; and Dr. Le Quynh Lien, Director of International Cooperation Department.

Overview of the meeting

Welcoming the Deputy Minister and the delegation to visit and work with VAST, Vice President Chu Hoang Ha shared that over the past 1 month, VAST has participated in many technical working sessions with Russian partners and relevant ministries of the Government of Vietnam to exchange, negotiating and formulating the draft for the contents of the 24th session of the Vietnam-Russia Intergovernmental Committee. In this year's session, science and technology cooperation issues were mentioned more with rich content such as environment, new energy, smart agriculture and, artificial intelligence.

VAST has also had a number of collaborations with Russian partners such as the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Russian Foundation for Basic Research (now the Russian Scientific Information Center or the Union Institute of Nuclear Research, the Joint Institute of Nuclear Research (JINR). Therefore, VAST hopes that the content agreed by the two Governments in this meeting as well as the existing cooperation between VAST and related units of the Russian Ministry of Science and Higher Education will be the basis for the two sides to develop effective and practical cooperation.

On behalf of the delegation of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, Deputy Minister Konstantin Mogilevsky thanked VAST for the welcome. Appreciating the strong cooperation between the 2 countries of Vietnam and the Russian Federation, Mr. Konstantin Mogilevsky also introduced the strengths and potentials of cooperation of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation to VAST in the field of training from cooperation agreements, scholarships, expert exchange programs, etc. emphasize the efforts and achievements of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation in promoting educational cooperation in Vietnam.

VAST also added that in terms of training, VAST currently has 3 focal points: USTH, Academy of Science and Technology, Institute of Mathematics training from bachelor to doctorate, including many majors taught in English and cooperating with international universities to grant dual degrees. At the end of March, the VAST delegation visited Moscow State University, and the two sides plan to implement joint training and research programs.

At the meeting, the two sides exchanged and discussed many contents related to the linkage between Russian and Vietnamese universities; Vietnamese-Russian university training cooperation model; foreign staff involved in teaching international universities; and International Dual Degree Undergraduate Program.

At the end of the meeting, the two sides expressed their joy to see many cooperation areas between VAST and Russian partners such as marine research surveys and joint cooperation projects supported by the Governments of the two sides. Inheriting and promoting the tradition of cooperation between Russian partners and VAST, VAST hopes that as a state management agency in the field of science and training as well as some key partners of VAST, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation will continue to support the existing bilateral cooperation and soon implement other and deeper cooperation directions in the field of training with VAST.
