VAST President receives delegation from Institute of Research for Development (IRD – France)
The reception also drew the participation of Assoc. Prof. Ninh Khac Ban, head of the Department of International Cooperation, and representatives from the Institute of Information Technology, the Institute of Marine Environment and Resources.
The visit was under the framework of scientific cooperation activities between France and Vietnam, on the occasion of President Michel Laurent’s visit to Vietnam.
Since 1999, IRD has coordinated and supported VAST to carry out different projects, including a project on Vietnam’s mounds and hills from 1998 to 1999, a study on the effect of human life and hydrodynamics on ephemera plant community and bacterium at Bach Dang River gate areas of from 2008 to 2010, the role of exotic and interior elements in agricultural activities from 2011 to 2013, biogeochemistry and bionomics of the Southeast Asian tropical coastal marine ecosystem from 2012 to 2014.
On the foundation of cooperation, VAST would like to maintain scientific cooperation between VAST and IRD, and asked to strengthen projects in climate change, natural disasters, ecosystem and environment for sustainable development. These are special priority fields proposed by IRD for activities in different countries.
Also in the framework of the reception, the two sides discussed orientations for cooperation to make further cooperation projects, and plans on organizing seminars to create opportunity for scientists from the two countries to work together, creating a foundation for following cooperation.
