VAST president receives delegation from China’s Ministry for Land and Resources

On October 14th 2013, Prof. Chau Van Minh, president of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST), received a delegation from China’s Ministry for Land and Resources led by its Deputy Minister Wang Min.

The reception also drew the participation of Assoc. Prof. Ninh Khac Ban, head of the Department of International Cooperation and leaders from the Institute of Environmental Technology, the Institute of Ecology and Biological Resources, and the Institute of Marine Geology and Geophysics. 


President Minh welcomed Deputy Minister Wang Min’s working visit to VAST.

After listening Deputy Minister Wang Min’s introduction about the Ministry for Land and Resources, Prof. Minh briefed him about the structural organization and scientific activities of VAST related to researching resources, environment and climate change, as well as cooperation between VAST and the China Academy of Science.

Deputy Minister Wang Minh hoped that the two sides would promote further cooperation on science and technology, especially to promote friendship between the two academies of science in particular and the two countries in general. Also in the framework of the reception, the two sides discussed cooperation prospect between the Ministry for Land and Resources and VAST in the near future, especially in the field of science and technology concerned by the two sides as well as building cooperation programmes on marine study, in which the priority is the implementation of the project on comparison study on Holocene-period sediment evolution of Chang Jiang and Red River deltas. The two sides will share information, study, compare the two deltas, analyze and find common rules and differences in delta establishment and evolution in order to reduce the effects of geological catastrophes at the river mouths and maintain sustainable development. The two sides also pay attention to building cooperation projects on surveying and investigating biological resources, preserving biodiversity and problems on treating environmental pollution, projects related to earthquake and natural catastrophes.
