18/03/2021
On January 9, 2021, at Lang – Hoa Lac Hi-Tech Park, the Vietnam International Innovation Expo 2021 (VIIE 2021) opened, together with the ground-breaking ceremony of the project building the National Innovation Center (NIC). This was the first international innovation expo hosted by the Ministry of Planning and Investment.

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and delegates open the expo and inaugurate the construction of the National Innovation Center

Attending were Politburo member and Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc; Party Central Committee member and Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam; leaders of ministries, central and local agencies; and representatives of many organizations, enterprises, research institutes and schools nationwide. On the side of VAST, there was Professor and Academician Chau Van Minh, Party Central Committee member, VAST Party Committee Secretary and VAST President.

VAST joined the VIIE 2021 using technologies that demonstrate high levels of uniqueness and innovation, as well as technologies capable of being widely applied in social life, contributing to the socio-economic development of Vietnam, such as the application of artificial intelligence in medical image analysis (Vietnam France University); low energy communication system using hot air balloon (Center for Informatics and Computing); superconducting heat materials; glass and smart windows for SmartCity (Institute of Materials Science); the short pulses emission laser; the plasma system in water for agriculture; unmanned Dragonfly26 helicopter; motorcycle fault diagnosis system (Institute of Physics); image and text recognition applications; sProtect; virus scan and safety rating; building a system of analyzing the current situation and forecasting technology development trends from invention and non-invention data sources; ICAS information synthesis and monitoring solution; the GATEWAY device integrating industry standard and wireless connectivity; IOT system supporting to orient information for users on cloud computing platform; ES-EYEBall remote object system; DATA ESPRESSO software; simulation of the production process of tablets; Dat Viet pottery: Solution to support increased information for ceramic products (Institute of Information Technology); innovative technology model for car showroom wastewater treatment; and nano application in cultivation and animal husbandry (Institute of Environmental Technology).

Overview of the booth

Coming to the VIIE 2021, besides many big companies such as Viettel, Vingroup, MoMo, CMC and Sunshine, as well as foreign invested corporations and enterprises such as Samsung, Hyosung, Intel, Dell, Hitachi and Siemens, VAST brought Vietnamese scientists' research to Vietnamese people. Many technologies left strong impressions on visitors and aroused interest from businesses, such as glass and smart window products for SmartCity of the Institute of Materials Science. The Nano Lam Son Co., Ltd., a spin-off from the Institute of Materials Science, has successfully developed a smart glass device operating under the light scattering mechanism of polymer-dispersed liquid crystal structures (PDLC).

The device works by changing the crystal axis orientation of the PDLC based on the change in the voltage applied to them. In case of electricity cut, the PDLC crystals are randomly arranged, the light is scattered and therefore things cannot be seen through the glass. In contrast, when there is electricity (~ 48V), the PDLC crystals are arranged in parallel and allow light to pass through. Currently, the glass and smart window product for SmartCity has been launched in the market and received the installation contract for SmartOffice block of Phenikaa Group, model villa block in Paris Ocean Park, Hanaka Group and offices and houses in the city.

Professor and Academician Chau Van Minh, President of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, directly comes to each booth and listens to the representatives of the exhibitors present the advantages of the product

Another technology of VAST which attracted great attention is the application of artificial intelligence technology in medical image analysis to support the diagnosis of cancer by the Vietnam France University (USTH). With the input of a CT scan of the patient who needs to support diagnosis, the system will rely on knowledge learned from the existing image-disease data to predict the location and size of the tumor (if any), accompanied by the reliability of the prediction. The figure below shows the product's operating process.

The Institute of Information Technology brought to the VIIE 2021 products that are of interest and widely applied, such as a system of analyzing the current situation and forecasting technology development trends from invention and non-invention data sources. The system is capable of analyzing technology development trends in the world, building the technology lifecycle; and putting forth general evaluation of basic research capacity, domestic applied research and identify industries and fields that are and tend to focus on research. This technology contributes effectively to science and technology leaders, inventors, researchers, intellectual property experts and enterprises.
