VAST delegation visits Belarus

Prof. Dr. Nguyen Hoai Chau; director of the Institute of Energy Science Dr. Ngo Tuan Kiet; director of the Institute of Information Technology Assoc. Prof. Dr. Thai Quang Vinh; and vice director of the Institute of Marine Biochemistry Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Viet Cuong.
The visit aimed to discuss prospects for developing bilateral cooperation between the two academies in the 2013-2015 period, and sign activity regulations of the Vietnam-Belarus Centre for Coordination Studies and Technology Development in the field of machine and equipment manufacture, energy and chemical products.
During the visit, VAST president Chau Van Minh had a working session with Belarus Prime Minister M.V. Myasnikovich to discuss results in science cooperation between the two academies since the visit made by Belarus Prime Minister to VAST in November 2011. The two sides also proposed cooperation in the near future, especially the application and commercialization of study cooperation between the two countries in general and the two academies in particular in the field of high technology. On this occasion, Prime Minister M.V. Myasnikovich asked VAST president Minh to deliver his invitation to Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Nguyen Tan Dung to pay an official visit to the Republic of Belarus in the near future.

During the working session with NASB presided over by Academician A.M. Rusetxki, the two sides recognized great possibilities in expanding science and technique cooperation between the two scientific organizations, and prospects in cooperation between the two academies. In the framework of the Vietnam-Belarus Centre for Coordination Studies and Technology Development, the sides will give priority in bilateral cooperation, focusing on making medicines and pharmaceutical products, manufacturing scientific equipment used in nano diagnosis and cell biotechnology, fire-resistant and super-insulating materials. The two sides put special attention on training high quality scientific staff for Vietnam at NASB. The Belarus side expressed the willingness and desire to speed up procedures to receive young Vietnamese cadres to study and research at institutes under NASB.

There were also meetings about different fields in science and technical cooperation with the first vice chairman of the National Committee for Science and Technology of the Republic of Belarus L.V. Demidov, vice chairman of the NASB S.A. Chizhik, chairman of the Belarus National Basic Research Fund V.A. Orlovich, and director of the A.A Centre for Technology Transfer Uspenski. The two sides appreciated results of 33 bilateral cooperation studies since 2008, focusing on the fields of physics, chemistry, biotechnology, information technology, energy and environment.

VAST delegation visited the Belarus National Technical University (BNTU). During discussion presided over by BNTU headmaster, academician B.M. Khrustalev, the partner announced results of cooperation over the past year between the university and the Institute of Energy Science in carrying out bilateral projects, as well as training young scientific staff for the Institute of Energy Science; and would like to promote cooperation with other institutes under VAST in fields where BNTU has strengths.

Before leaving the capital Minsk, the delegation visited the Vietnamese Embassy in the Republic of Belarus and discuss the results of the working visit to Belarus.
