VAST awards insignia to IRD Representative in Vietnam

On March 6, 2017, VAST President received and awarded VAST insignia to Mr. Jean Pascal Torreton, IRD Representative in Vietnam, for his contribution to cooperation and the development of VAST – IRD relations over the past 8 years.

VAST and IRD signed a bilateral cooperation deal in 1999 which was valid for 5 years. The deal was extended in 2004, 2009 and 2014. Since taking his position as representative of IRD in Vietnam, Dr. Jean Pascal Torreton has made great efforts to boost cooperation between VAST and IRD, leading to outstanding cooperative results. Accordingly, from 2010 to 2016, 3 international laboratories, a ICT Lab and 3 groups of young researchers were established. VAST carried out 12 bilateral projects with IRD; announced 62 scientific works with IRD, while IRD trained 2 doctors and granted 5 scholarships to VAST. The two sides also worked together to successfully organize summer courses ASIAME (2013) and Do Son (2014).

Addressing the insignia awarding ceremony, VAST President Chau Van Minh appreciated the active contribution of Dr. Jean Pascal Torreton at VAST over the past 8 years, expressing his hope that Dr. Jean Pascal Torreton would support cooperative relations between Vietnam and France in general, and scientific and technological studies at VAST in particular.


VAST colleagues congratulated Dr. Jean Pascal Torreton, while he extended his thanks to VAST President Chau Van Minh, as well as his colleagues at VAST for the warm welcome and support throughout his working period in Vietnam. He stressed that he was happy to work with VAST and his efforts were recognized by VAST through the insignia.
