USTH held Opening Ceremony of 2023-2024 school year

On October 6, 2023, the University of Science and Technology of Hanoi (USTH) solemnly held the "Opening Ceremony of the 2023-2024 school year" to welcome nearly 900 new students, trainees and new graduate students.

The Opening Ceremony was attended by Prof. Chu Hoang Ha - Vice President of Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology; Mr. Olivier Brochet, French Ambassador to Vietnam; Representative of the Alliance of French universities and research organizations for the development of USTH (USTH Consortium), and many distinguished guests, strategic partners, staff, lecturers and all new students of course 14.

2023 marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations and 10 years of strategic partnership between Vietnam and France. USTH, as France's largest educational cooperation project abroad, in the past school year also contributed remarkable results in training and research.

Based on the strength of extensive cooperation with leading partners in France, with strong support from Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology and its affiliated units and major hospitals and pharmaceutical enterprises in Hanoi, USTH opens a Pharmacy major focusing on training high-quality human resources with 2 orientations: "Clinical Pharmacy" and "Pharmaceutical Industry". This is also one of the school's key applied fields of study in the context that basic sciences such as biotechnology, drug development, medical science and technology have made steady progress over the past 10 years. With the establishment of the Pharmacy major, USTH has increased the total number of training majors of the University to 17, the total number of university training programs to 20, with 17 single degree programs and 3 dual degree programs. Regarding research, USTH has made remarkable developments in the quality and quantity of international publications. The school ranks 3rd among the units under the Academy in terms of SCIE international publication productivity, and ranks 2nd in terms of the number of publications with a high Impact Factor. Currently, on average, a lecturer at the University publishes 1.6 articles in the SCIE category/year, close to the international publication productivity of regional and international universities.

On the occasion of the opening ceremony, Prof. Jean-Marc Lavest - Principal of USTH sent his congratulations and thanks to the 900 new students, trainees and graduate students of the 2023-2024 school year who have trusted and chosen USTH as the "landing point" for their journey to conquer knowledge. Prof. Jean-Marc Lavest sends a message to new students, trainees and graduate students: "The most important thing at USTH is not to give you a degree but to give you the key to success, these are the best science and technology skills, the ability to analyze and come up with solutions, all of these factors will become your passport to success. USTH is also an open door for students to reach out to the world, especially France. You will see that at school there are many people who speak French, and you will also have the opportunity to learn this language. Many students will also have the opportunity to intern or exchange abroad.”

At the ceremony, Prof. Chu Hoang Ha, Vice President of Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, highly appreciated the achievements that USTH achieved in the past school year. He said that the 9th School Council took place successfully, passing many important resolutions for the development and expansion of the School in the coming time. In particular, the University has conducted an assessment of training facilities by the French High Council for the Evaluation of Research and Higher Education (HCERES). This result objectively and clearly affirms the quality of USTH's training, research, facilities and services, demonstrating international recognition of the University after 14 years of development.

On behalf of the Academy's leadership, the Vice President thanked the French Embassy and Government for the companionship and strong support for all activities of the School during the 14 years of establishment and development. He believes that, in the coming time, when the University enters an important period of development and expansion, the French Government will continue to support the University in training and research so that USTH can achieve its goal of becoming a university. The university focuses on excellent research in Vietnam and in the region, contributing to the increasingly strong cooperation between Vietnam and France.
