U.S delegation pays working visit to VAST

On June 10th, 2019, Prof. Acad. Chau Van Minh, President of Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST), received the U.S delegation led by Charles Frank Bolden Jr., former General Director of the US Agency for Aeronautics and Space (NASA) and the Honorary Ambassador to the Universe of the U.S.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ninh Khac Ban, Head of the Department of International Cooperation; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Anh Tuan, General Director of Vietnam Space Center also participated in the reception.

At the reception, Charles Frank Bolden Jr. said that from 1986 to 1994, he went to orbit four times by shuttle. He also participated in events for the first time successfully landed on Mars of Curiosity self-propelled robots, launched spacecraft to Jupiter and the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST).

He also gave brief information to VAST president working schedule at VAST. Accordingly, the delegation would had a working session at a seminar on exploring the universe and commercializing the space on June 10th with students of Vietnam Space Center; had exchanges with teachers and students from several schools in Hanoi city on June 11th at Hoa Lac Observatory to inspire students who have passion for studying the universe, especially about space travel.

On behalf of VAST, President Chau Van Minh expressed his thanks and health wishes to the delegation. He said as US Honorary Ambassador to the Universe, Charles Frank Bolden Jr. would continue to support Vietnam in general and VAST in particular in the field of space research in the future. He wished the Ambassador"s visit to Vietnam a great success, contributing to strengthening bilateral cooperation and promoting the relation between Vietnam and the United States.
