Training Workshop for GLOBE 2018 lecturers

On May 5, 2018, at the Vietnam Space Center (the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology) the Global Learning and Observation to Benefit the Environment (GLOBE) training workshop took place. Attending the workshop were Dr. Vu Anh Tuan - Deputy Director General of Vietnam Space Center, Dr. Tony P. Murphy - Director of GLOBE Implementation Office (GIO), and representatives of leaders and teachers from Hanoi – Amsterdam School for Gifted Students, the Experimental Secondary School and Nguyen Tat Thanh Secondary and High School, together with representatives of some other relevant agencies.

Overview of GLOBE Training Workshop 2018


This was the second successive year the GLOBE program was organized by the Vietnam Space Center to further equip teachers with the knowledge, skills and practicing methods on the three major themes of GLOBE, including the atmosphere, hydrosphere and soil; as well as how to post data on the international GLOBE website.


Opening the workshop, Dr. Tony P. Murphy presented the topic of soil: measuring the property, humidity and temperature, solidity, and the texture of the soil. In this section, Dr. Tony P. Murphy instructs teachers to prepare for fieldwork, as well as how to analyze soil properties in the laboratory.


Regarding the atmosphere, Dr. Desh Bandhu presented the contents of: air temperature, cloud observation, observation of white tracks of the clouds and rainfall and pH index. In hydrosphere topic, the contents such as temperature, water clarity, pH and conductivity were presented in detail by Dr. R.K. Ganrg through lively visual images.

After each lecturer"s presentation, there is a practical part for teachers to engage not only theoretical but also practical skills in teaching at the school.


Speaking at the workshop, Dr. Vu Anh Tuan highly appreciated the coordination of the GLOBE Implementation Office in organizing activities related to the program, expressing the expectation that the trained teachers will gain sufficient knowledge as trainers to best serve the teaching activities.


In the framework of the GLOBE program 2018, from May 7 to 9, 2018 in Hanoi, the Vietnam Space Center co-ordinated with the GLOBE Asia-Pacific Office to organize the meeting of “National Coordinator Globe Program in Asia-Pacific” with the participation of 16 representatives from regional countries.


The meeting aimed to assess the performance of global learning and observation to benefit the environment of member countries, and discuss possible regional and inter-regional cooperation, and update new knowledge to develop the GLOBE program, as well as plans for the years to come in the Asia-Pacific region.
