Three new plant species discovered in Central Highlands

Three new plant species belonging to the Malvaceae and Rubiaceae have just been described and published by Vietnamese and Japanese scientists. Of which, one species of the Malvaceae was discovered in Dak Nong province and two others of the Rubiaceae were found in Gia Lai province. The three new species include:

Helicteres daknongensis V.S.Dang & D.T.Bui

Helicteres daknongensis V.S.Dang & D.T.Bui belonging to the Malvaceae were found at an altitude of 750 m in Nghia Duc commune, Gia Nghia district, Dak Nong province. The species name "daknongensis" was named after Dak Nong province. This is the result of the project with code UDNGDP.02/19-20 sponsored by the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST) and Dak Nong Provincial People's Committee.

Lasianthus konchurangensis V.S.Dang, T.B.Tran & T.D.Ha

Psydrax gialaiensis B.H.Quang, T.B.Tran & V.S.Dang of the Rubiaceae was found at an altitude of 989 m in the evergreen forest habitat of Kon Chu Rang Nature Reserve, Gia Lai province. The species "gialaiensis" was named after Gia Lai province. This is the result of a national project with code DTLCN.58/19 under Program 562.

Lasianthus konchurangensis V.S.Dang, T.B.Tran & T.D.Ha

Lasianthus konchurangensis V.S.Dang, T.B.Tran & T.D.Ha belonging the Rubiaceae was discovered at an altitude of 1012 m in the primary forest of Kon Chu Rang Nature Reserve, Gia Lai province. The species "konchurangensis" was named after the Kon Chu Rang Nature Reserve, where samples were collected to describe the new species. This is a research cooperation result of the Institute of Tropical Biology, Institute of Ecology and Biological Resources under VAST and Japanese partners.
