The National Assembly’s supervision team works with the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology
Attending the meeting were Prof.Acad. Chau Van Minh, Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Party Committee, President of Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST); Prof.Dr. Phan Ngoc Minh, Vice President of VAST; together with the comrades are leaders of functional departments, research units under VAST.
Reporting to the Monitoring Team, Prof.Dr. Phan Ngoc Minh, VAST Vice President, said that the areas of ethnic minorities and mountainous areas have always been paid special attention by the Party and State. Over the past ten years, VAST has always closely followed the guidelines and policies of the Party and State, actively implemented specific programs to promote science and technology to serve socio-economic development in ethnic minorities and mountainous areas. The Institute has strengthened science and technology cooperation with many localities with a high proportion of ethnic minorities and mountainous areas. The two national programs, the Aerospace Science and Technology Program and the Science and Technology Program for Socio-Economic Development of the Central Highlands, assigned by the Government to the VAST, have tasks and research content directly serving mountainous, remote, isolated, and ethnic minorities areas.
On behalf of the Board of Directors and Office of the Science and Technology Program for socio-economic development in the Central Highlands, Dr. Nguyen Dinh Ky has reported in detail the results of the program implementation with many practical applications, which have been successfully transferred in the Central Highlands provinces.
According to statistics over the past time, the Institute has deployed 117 tasks related to ethnic minorities and mountainous areas, accounting for 77.48% of the total number of tasks in the VAST's technology application and deployment block. Besides, VAST is proud to be the training and fostering place and the workplace of many excellent scientists and successful managers who are ethnic minorities.
At the meeting, the delegates gave a number of recommendations and proposals to consider amending and supplementing a number of articles in the Law on Science and Technology and other sub-law documents in order to clearly define specific priorities to develop science and technology to serve the ethnic minorities; encourage social investment, especially from the business sector; Proposing to support VAST to lead the implementation of the project "Decoding and building a genetic database of ethnic minorities in Vietnam, providing scientific basis for genetic research, disease prevention, improving the people index, developing the Vietnamese ethnic minorities”.
The supervision team of the Nationalities Council highly appreciated the content of the report of VAST to closely follow the required outline and recognized the contribution of VAST to the science and technology, technique transfer for ethnic minorities and mountainous areas. The team also wants VAST to continue to strengthen actual surveys to evolve science and technology programs for ethnic minorities and mountainous areas in the next stage.

At the end of the meeting, the supervision team of the Ethnic Council visited the Institute of Geophysics and the Vietnam Museum of Nature under the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology.
