The International Workshop on Technological Needs Assessment (TNA) on Climate change Mitigation and Adaptation in Southeast Asia: Experience Sharing and Technology Transfer

From 26th February to 3 March 2018,  the Institute of Natural Products Chemistry - Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology  (INPC-VAST) in collaboration with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of Vietnam and Asia – Pacific Netwok for Global Change Research (APN) holds the International Workshop on Technological Needs Assessment (TNA) on Climate change Mitigation and Adaptation in Southeast Asia: Experience Sharing and Technology Transfer.

The workshop was attended by institutes of Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology such as the Institute of Natural Products Chemistry, Institute of Environmental Technology, Institute of Science Energy, Vietnam National Satellite Center. The workshop also attracted the participation of the General Department of Meteorology, Hydrology and Climate Change, Vietnam Institute of Meteorology, Hydrology and Climate Change, Institute of Strategy and Policy on Naural Resource and Environment and international experts from many Countries: Japan, UK, Australia and Southeast Asia countries such as Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines.

Sponsored by the Asia-Pacific Network for Global change research (APN), this TNA workshop is being held in Vietnam to assist developing countries in identifying national priorities for adaptation and mitigation of climate change, with a focus on technology transfer. The workshop is an opportunity to expand cooperation with countries that are also facing climate change; exchange and share experiences, find the most effective solutions to adapt and mitigate to climate change to promote economic development, meet the needs of society, protect the environment and natural resources, to ensure the sustainable development for future generations.

During the 02 two working days, 16 participants presented their presentations at the workshop based on their understanding of the importance of carrying out technology assessments to address cross cutting issues such as energy, waste, water and tropical agriculture as well as some specific industrial processes.


In addition, the TNA delegates had a one-day field trip to exchange experiences with young scientists from Southeast Asia countries including Myanmar and exchanged proposals for developing science and policy to serve the  adaptation to climate change in Trang An - Ninh Binh on ecotourism, environmental protection, response to climate change and energy saving, clean energy in Bat Trang pottery village – Hanoi.
