In the jubilant and joyful atmosphere, on the morning of July 15, 2014, at Hon Chong hill, Vinh Phuoc ward, Nha Trang city, Khanh Hoa province, Nha Trang Research and Technology Application Institute (NITRA) of the Institute Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST) started construction of the Hon Chong Center for Advanced Research and Creation.

Attending the groundbreaking ceremony: GS. Chau Van Minh UVTW Party, Chairman of Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, GS. Duong Ngoc Hai Vice President of Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology; MSc. Le Dinh Thao Chief of Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology; Leaders of Space Technology Institute, Central Scientific Research Institute, Oceanographic Institute ...;

Objectives of the project: to build a scientific and technological research and application center for remote sensing, geographic information systems (GIS) and global positioning systems (GPS); international cooperation on scientific and technological research and application; display and disseminate information on scientific research and application achievements in the process of commercializing scientific products.

With the three-sided advantage of the sea, the Center will be an ideal location for the construction of the National Collection of Marine Microorganisms of Vietnam. This collection will be an appropriate means for studying the systems and classification, ecological properties and biotechnology potential of microorganisms. In addition, microorganisms in the collections are also a gene store used for basic research and applications.

In the country, there is currently no unified collection of marine microorganisms. That has inhibited marine biotechnology research, because marine microorganisms are the most suitable object for marine biotechnology. With their help it is possible to create new compounds for different industries, for medicine, agriculture and other national economic sectors. It is also new enzymes, new antibiotics and new antitumors.

The development of the National Collection and its accompanying modern microbiology laboratory will facilitate the development of not only microorganisms but also ecology, biotechnology, biochemistry and organic biochemistry. Sea, etc. This will be the basis for the fastest development of marine biology and other sciences related to it in Vietnam.
