The 4th national scientific conference on Vietnam Natural Museum System
The Conference was organised to review, exchange and share research results of domestic and international scientists and managers in the fields of museums, conservation, Earth sciences, life sciences and related disciplines. It also served as an important forum for experts and scientists from inside and outside the country to announce new research findings, share practical experience and propose breakthrough solutions in museum work, biodiversity conservation, natural resource conservation, aiming toward the effective exploitation and sustainable development of Vietnam’s natural resources.
At the Conference, delegates presented 13 reports and presentations focusing on two main specialised fields: Life Sciences and Earth Sciences.
In the field of Life Sciences, the presentations reflected many diverse research results on Vietnam’s flora and fauna, ranging from nematodes, crustaceans, seaweed and fungi to higher plants. The reports addressed the expansion of research areas from marine and island regions to midland and high mountainous areas, covering taxonomy, biology, ecology and research on potential bioactive compounds. In particular, the combination of traditional research methods with modern technologies such as molecular biology and scanning electron microscopy demonstrated the research team’s capacity to master technology and meet the trend of international integration.

For the Earth Sciences group, the presentations focused on the investigation, collection and interpretation of geological, palaeontological, fossil and geomorphological values.
Delivering the closing remarks at the Conference, Assoc. Prof. Dr Nguyen Trung Minh affirmed that the 4th National Conference on the Vietnam Natural Museum System was not only a gathering place for interdisciplinary research works but also contributed to orienting development strategies in the coming period, with a focus on enhancing research capacity, modernising technology, strengthening appraisal and classification, and expanding network linkages in order to effectively promote the value of natural heritage for economic development, science, education and sustainable development.
The Conference concluded successfully with the participation of a large number of scientists, managers and experts from both Vietnam and abroad, continuing to affirm the research capacity and scientific potential of the Vietnam Natural Museum System in the preservation and promotion of the value of the nation’s natural heritage.
