Summary Conference of the Trade Union of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST) for 2024 and Implementation of Tasks for 2025
Overview of the conference
The conference was attended by Prof. Chu Hoàng Hà, Vice President of VAST; Dr. Pham Tuan Huy, Permanent Deputy Secretary of the VAST Party Committee; Mr. Thai Hoai Nam, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Public Employees' Trade Union; Ms. Nguyen Thanh Tam, Chairwoman of the VAST Trade Union; Vice Chairpersons of the VAST Trade Union Mr. Phan Ke Long and Ms. Tran Thi Mai Huong; Ms. Nguyen Thi Hue, former Chairwoman of the VAST Trade Union; representatives of the Youth Union, Veterans' Association, functional department leaders, and trade union officials from VAST's affiliated units.
Over the past year, the VAST Trade Union has promptly implemented directives from the Party Committee, VAST leadership, and the Vietnam Public Employees' Trade Union, developing specific action programs and work plans. It launched various emulation movements, created a united working environment, and motivated members to innovate and improve the quality of scientific research. Despite challenges, the VAST Trade Union effectively fulfilled its role within the overall context of the institution.
The VAST Trade Union has proactively advised Party Committees on policies for staff, ensuring transparency and fairness in recruitment, training, and welfare. Affiliated unions coordinated with authorities to organize effective staff and worker conferences, implemented resolutions from union congresses, and cared for members' material and spiritual lives during Lunar New Year, Workers' Month, and other occasions. It organized cultural and sports activities, including the successful 2024 Community Cultural Performance celebrating the 50th anniversary of VAST and preparations for the 9th Party Congress. Additionally, the union supported staff families on occasions like International Children's Day (June 1) and the Mid-Autumn Festival, recognized outstanding academic achievements, and conducted gratitude activities, charity work, and support for disadvantaged families.
Performance evaluations of affiliated trade unions in 2024 resulted in 10 units achieving "Outstanding Completion of Tasks," 32 units achieving "Good Completion of Tasks," and 4 units completing their tasks.
Speaking at the conference, Prof. Chu Hoang Ha congratulated and recognized the VAST Trade Union's achievements in 2024. He also congratulated Ms. Nguyen Thi Hue, former Chairwoman of the VAST Trade Union, for receiving the Second-Class Labor Order.
In 2025, as VAST celebrates its 50th anniversary and the 9th Party Congress, significant organizational changes are expected due to the implementation of Resolution 18-NQ/TW. The VAST Trade Union is tasked to focus on key political objectives, collaborate closely with affiliated unit leaders, ensure effective communication, and support staff during transitions. It will also promote patriotic emulation movements to achieve institutional objectives.
With its achievements, the Party Committee and VAST leadership are confident that in 2025, the VAST Trade Union will continue to innovate, achieve greater success, and excel in fulfilling its missions. Prof. Chu extended his best wishes for health, happiness, and professional success to all attendees as they enter the new year.
The conference celebrated outstanding contributions, including Ms. Nguyen Thi Hue receiving the Second-Class Labor Order; six individuals receiving the Commemorative Medal for "Building the Trade Union"; and 38 units and members receiving Certificates of Merit for their excellence in 2024.
