Student Science Research Forum: Engineering and Technology towards Carbon Neutrality
The Student Scientific Research Forum is an annual event, first held in 2020 with the participation of many universities across the country and the main sponsorship from the German International Cooperation Agency (GIZ) within the framework of the energy sector technical cooperation program. The event is not only a place for students and lecturers to connect and exchange, but also contributes to raising awareness and scientific research capacity on issues in the energy sector.
After four successful events, the forum has affirmed its position as a prestigious academic event for students in the energy industry, with many high-quality researches and solutions. The 2024 Student Scientific Research Forum was held at the University of Science and Technology of Hanoi (USTH) with the theme “Engineering and Technologies Toward Carbon Neutrality”.
Speaking at the opening of the forum, Prof. Jean-Marc Lavest, Rector of USTH, emphasized that energy is one of the important foundations for economic development for a country. Specifically, to achieve the goal of doubling GDP in the next 10 years, Vietnam needs to increase energy production, while ensuring sustainability in the exploitation and use of these resources. The transition from traditional energy to low-carbon energy sources is a strategic requirement to minimize environmental impacts and respond to climate change. Prof. Jean-Marc Lavest expressed his hope that the next generation of students trained at Vietnamese universities will become experts and scientists who play an important role in researching sustainable energy solutions, developing and implementing effective policies. Prof. Jean-Marc Lavest wished the program success and that participating students would have useful experiences, raising awareness and scientific research capacity for current issues in the energy sector.
This year, the forum attracted a large number of students from 13 domestic and international universities. A total of nearly 120 research papers were presented, focusing on areas such as electrical machines, power electronics, control, renewable energy, efficient energy management, and power transmission and distribution. With the number and quality of participating research papers increasing sharply over the years, the forum has affirmed its position as a prestigious academic event for students in the energy industry.
Not only that, this year's forum also has the participation of many speakers from domestic and foreign units, such as RMIT University (Australia), Hanyang University (Korea), Applied Engineering Systems Joint Stock Company and German International Cooperation Organization (GIZ).
Also within the framework of the forum, the signing ceremony of a cooperation agreement between six major universities in the energy sector, including Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Hanoi University of Industry, University of Science and Technology (University of Danang), University of Electricity, University of Water Resources and University of Science and Technology of Hanoi (USTH), took place, marking an important step forward in strengthening cooperation, developing training and scientific research between the schools, and contributing to improving the quality of human resources in the energy sector in Vietnam.
At the forum, the research groups presented their ideas and technological solutions impressively, and argued convincingly against the content presented by the judges. This reflected the careful preparation, creativity and research capacity of the participating groups.
At the end of the program, the Jury awarded First Prize to the two best research papers, including the topic "Application of hand gesture detection and ASL sign language translation: Integrating image processing and sensors" by Tran Anh Phi, a student of the University of Science and Technology of Hanoi (USTH), and the topic "Research on the application of machine learning models to classify and locate faults on transmission lines" by Tran Van Tien, Bui Thi Phuong Thao, Nguyen Minh Hoang and Pham Thi Kim Huong, students of Hanoi University of Science and Technology. In addition, the Jury also awarded 05 Second Prizes, 08 Third Prizes and 01 Best Female Prize.
The two first prize winning research groups received their awards
Representatives of the second prize winning research groups received the award
Representatives of the third prize winning research groups received the award
Representative of the research group that won the Best Female Researcher award received the award
