Prof. Masahide Takahashi expressed his pleasure at the positive cooperation results achieved by the two sides in recent years, noting that Osaka Metropolitan University (OMU) is a major public university in Japan, formerly Osaka Prefecture University. Osaka Metropolitan University has a strong focus on science, technology, engineering, and healthcare, offering a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs. He emphasized that Osaka Metropolitan University has maintained active cooperation with VAST in research areas such as energy technology, environment, chemistry, life sciences, biology, and materials science.

VAST and Osaka Metropolitan University signed a new Memorandum of Understanding in 2023, under which both sides expressed their intention to promote cooperation in research and training in areas of mutual interest, including chemistry, biology, materials science, and applied sciences for green development; environmental pollution research and treatment; and the development of biopharmaceutical products from indigenous biological resources. Based on the newly signed MoU for the 2023–2025 period, scientists from the Institute of Chemistry have collaborated with their counterparts to implement one international cooperation task under the VAST–JSPS bilateral cooperation program and one state-level protocol task. This cooperation has enabled the joint publication of three scientific papers in SCIE-indexed journals and three national-level scientific papers, the organization of three exchange visits, the training of two master’s students and one doctoral candidate, the organization of one thematic workshop, and the granting of one patent.
