Strengthening and expanding cooperation with Lao PDR in science - technology and education and training

In order to implement the conclusions of the President of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST) and the Minister of Technology and Communications of Laos at the recent online conference and contribute to celebrating the Vietnam-Laos and Laos-Vietnam Year of Solidarity and Friendship 2022, on April 28, 2022, the International Cooperation Department coordinated with the Office of the Ministry of Technology and Communications; the Department of International Cooperation, Ministry of Education and Sports of Lao PDR held an online meeting to exchange and propose specific cooperation contents.

At the working session with the Ministry of Technology and Communications, the two sides exchanged and proposed a number of specific cooperation contents on research, training and implementation of digital transformation and technologies related to the industrial revolution 4.0 such as big data, cloud computing, artificial intelligence, etc. Besides, cooperation in exchanging data related to earthquake reporting is also of interest and discussion by the two sides, towards building specific schemes to develop cooperation in these two fields between the VAST and the Lao Ministry of Technology and Communications.

At the working session with the Ministry of Education and Sports, the two sides exchanged and proposed cooperation in training students, masters, doctoral students and short - long-term training courses in the field of natural sciences; strengthening capacity of science and technology managers; cooperate in developing and exchanging documents and textbooks for training courses and manuals for performing laboratory operations in the field of natural science. The contents of cooperation within the framework of two laboratories on Life Science and Earth Science built by the Government of Vietnam and supported by the Government of Laos in 2017 were also proposed by the two sides.

At the end of the meeting, the parties agreed to build a cooperation agreement between VAST and the Lao Ministry of Technology and Communication; and between VAST and the Ministry of Education and Sports; coordinate to complete exchange and signing activities in the second quarter of 2022, and believe that cooperation activities and projects on science and human resource training will continue to be implemented effectively, contributing to activities of the Vietnam-Laos and Laos-Vietnam Friendship and Solidarity Year 2022; and deepening the special friendship between Vietnam and Laos.
