Strengthen Science and Technology cooperation between VAST and Thua Thien Hua Provincial People’s Committee
Implementing the Cooperation Agreement for the period 2014-2020 signed on November 20, 2013, between VAST and Thua Thien Hue Province, up to now, both sides have effectively implemented scientific and technological activities, making a crucial contribution to the promotion and socio-economic development of Thua Thien Hue Province. Over the past time, the two side have jointly implemented many science and technology (S&T) tasks, including: 7 S&T cooperation missions (total funding of VND 11,230.0 million), 3 independent tasks (total funding of VND 3,106.0 million), along with some other important missions. Most tasks are in the field of research, application of technical advances to life and production, solving a number of urgent problems as ordered by Thua Thien Hue Province.

The two sides have discussed the proposals and urgent issues that the People’s Committee of Thua Thien Hue Province requested VAST to support. Additionally, the delegates also proposed many issues that need scientists to participate in such as: research and assessment of resource fluctuations, biological characteristics of goby fish reproduction, protection and development of lagoon resources at Tam Giang – Cau Hai lagoon in Thua Thien Hue province, and studying the scientific basis of conservation and development of valuable indigenous forest vegetable gene sources in Thua Thien Hue.
To conclude the meeting, Mr. Le Truong Luu and Prof. Acad. Chau Van Minh agreed on the content of scientific and technological cooperation to contribute to the sustainable socio-economic development of Thua Thien Hue province in the future; agreed to direct focal units to study issues and discussions during the meeting to synthesize and build into science and technology cooperation tasks, so that immediately after the end of the period 2014-2020, VAST and The Ministry of Science and Technology and the People’s Committee of Thua Thien Hue province will study and sign a cooperation agreement for the next 5-year period with the purpose of continuing to promote and effectively use the potential and strengths of Thua Thien Hue province and the potential of science and technology of VAST. Implementing the goal of putting science and technology into real life, contributing to local socio-economic development.
At the end of the meeting, participants from Thua Thien Hue province visited of number of research units of VAST, including the Vietnam National Museum of Naure and the Co Nhue DNA Research Laboratory of the Institute of Biotechnology.
