State President Tran Dai Quang pays working visit to VAST
He was accompanied by Chu Ngoc Anh, Party Central Committee member and Minister of Science and Technology; and Giang Son, Standing Vice Head of the Office of the State President. VAST attendants at the ceremony were Professor and Academic Chau Van Minh, Party Central Committee member, Secretary of the VAST Party Committee, and President of VAST; together with leaders from VAST institutes and former leaders of VAST institutes, as well as leaders from VAST agencies representing over 4,000 staff of VAST.

On behalf of VAST, Professor and Academic Chau Van Minh, VAST President, reviewed the founding and development of the academy over the past 41 years. From 3 institutes since its establishment in 1975, VAST now has 52 agencies across 3 regions of the country, becoming a leading scientific research academy in natural sciences and technological development, with staff continuously growing in terms of quality and quantity (over 4,100 staff, including 244 professors and associate professors, 750 doctors and doctors of science, and over 800 bachelors).

Addressing the ceremony, Tran Dai Quang confirmed that the Party and State always considered science and technology the most important motive force in the nation’s socio-economic development. VAST, as a leading agency in the field of natural science and technological development, plays a very important role in the process. He said that VAST missions in the future were vital in realising high goals, focusing on 3 areas: increasing the scientific and technological ability, renewing the management mechanism, and increasing application research. The academy should invest in studying spearhead scientific sectors which hold practical significance towards the national industrialization and modernization as well as security and defence protection. In addition, the State President asserted that it was necessary to renew the management mechanism and organization of scientific and technological activities, considering it a breakthrough step for promoting and increasing the efficiency of development, creating a driving force for scientists to devote themselves to the development of the nation’s science and technology.
Tran Dai Quang expressed his hope to have a meeting with scientists in all areas to listen to their ideas for national development. He added he believed that with the existing potential, VAST will develop further and gain more achievements, deserving the aspiration and trust from the Party, State and people.
